Generally i would like to know which one is better.

Also i would like to know which one you would choose out of these CPUs

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB)

or

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000 3.10GHz (Socket AM2)

Obviousthe AMD clock speed is higher, but i've heard that Intel and intel 2.3-2.5ghz dual core/core 2 duo would out perform an AMD 3.1ghz dual core.

the intel is better... the x2 6000 at 3 ghz, is the match for a 2.4 GHz E6600, so the E5200 is better, especially if you overclock

Right now Intel is the way to go. Their line of CPUs simply perform better and offer much higher overclocking possibilities than AMDs chips.

That is correct. The Intel Core architecture is much more efficient at a given clock speed vs. the Athlon line. Now, that said, AMD's Phenom line (in the Socket AM2+) is a much closer match if you're really looking to save a buck. Still, most agree that Intel Core 2 CPUs are the way to go, especially now. With the new Core i7's about to come out, prices for Core 2 CPUs and DDR2 memory are probably going to start dropping fast (i7 uses DDR3).
