Both are 50" 720p Plasma sets.

Panasonic

Samsung

Both are great companies, though you always hear Panasonic with Plasmas. But looking at these two, which one is better? In general, which is the better company for plasmas?

I thought that Panasonic was always the 2nd best, with the 1st being Pioneer.

In general, yes. But comparing those two models, the Samsung's specs are a bit better.

Overall the Samsung is better with the 3 hdmi (compared to Pan's 2) and higher contrast ratio. I recommend though that you a) buy the HDTV (or any HDTV) in store and b) get a 1080p version of the Samsung.

I didn't look at the TV specs but yes; Panasonic is the better manufacturer of plasmas. You have to look at each display type separarately to judge manufacturers. While Samsung makes good DLPs and LCDs, Pansonic and Pioneer make the best plasmas.

when it comes to a major purchase such as this, i'd recommend you see if these particular models are avail. at a local store...even then i would purchase both to see which one performs better at home and return the other!

- personally i never had any good experiences with samsung hdtv's (lcd or plasma), but they do have very good user reviews...i was about to check out a 42" panasonic plasma, but this salesman show me a late model 50" pioneer plasma i couldn't refuse for the price...so far it's been great!

good luck
