Which is the best FPS??

We have all played First Person Shooters and well we all are totally immersed into the action supplied by them.... But which is the game that thrills us to the very core???

Discounting the hybrid Deus Ex (FPS/RPG), I would have to say Half-Life 2 or No One Lives Forever for Single Player action.

For multiplayer action, probably Call of Duty, because I've been playing that game for a long time and keep going back to it.

Also, how in God's name did you pick the games for this thread - Call of Duty is five years old?!?!?  So is Halo?!?!?  No HL:, Far Cry, Chonicles of Riddick?

no half life 1 or 2 .....for me its these games...

Hate to sound like everyone else, but I have to throw my hat into the Half Life 2 ring.  For SP that is.  For multi its BF 2142. 

Close second to HL 2 though is Far Cry.  If only they had taken out all those damn indoor "corridor hunt" levels.  Give me beautiful beaches, lush mountains, and ominous rivers anyday. 

Not sure if you can call is true FPS, but  have to give props to Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear.  The first R6 invented the tactical shooter sub-genera, and Rouge Spear just improved upon it in every way (Raven Shield was horrible unfortunatly.)  The recent Vegas is an interesting hybird FPS and tactical FPS, and a blast to play (probably 3rd on my list.)

Old-School - Doom or Duke Nukem

Newer - Half Life series has been some of the best gaming I have ever played.  Far Cry was another excellent game.  I would also have to say Doom 3.  Granted, it's not a deep game by any means but as Doom being my all time favorite game it was awesome to see all the old characters with a fresh coat of paint (especially the cyber demon!!).

Single Player :- Far Cry, Half Life, Half Life 2, Call of Duty, Rainbow Six 3 : Raven Shield, Doom 3, FEAR

Multiplayer :- Counter-Strike, Unreal Tornament, Battlefield 2

Note: Priority decreses from left to right. 

The call of duty franchise has aa great single player but battlefield is great for multiplayer

OK, as for the question, if we are considering the whole range of FPS games then I gotta say Deus Ex.  Its also my favorite game as well.  SPeaking of Deus Ex, I havent played it for three months time to load it up again....

Great choice in terms of the amount of fun and hours spent,  but then again it was nothing else worth playing back in the days so... I`d say CS/HL 1&2 + episodes. Oh and screw Halo on PC...

There are better games, not to say goldeneye wasn't a great one.
