Look at his TV from the side and see the color/contrast shifts. Look at a dark movie like the Dark Knight and see the how much more black and detail in dark screen are visible on your plasma compared to his. Also look at a dark scene and see how his TV has non-uniform lighting.

Plasma. I've grown to dislike lcds. That dislike is keeping me from getting a mid sized tv. People will say that motion has gotten better over the years for lcd, but it still isn't comparable to plasma. The only advantage that lcd has over plasma is better performance in a multitude of lighting circumstances, lower power consumption, and the sets do not produce NEARLY as much heat. But as far as picture performance goes, it isn't comparable.

You made a good choice, your friend is wrong. Not only do you have the better TV, but you have $5 :P.

The plasma was a good choice.

Ever since getting a Fascinate(Galaxy S) and watching Blu Ray rips on it, no TV can compare. Why aren't OLEDs mainstream yet

Because according to the review of that Sony one, the technology still sucks.

I think the biggest problem with the OLED was the colour accuracy/primary colours. When green looks neon you know something is wrong.

Not when it's calibrated... Voodoo ColorFix for the Galaxy S's calibrate the screen, and it trumps any plasma I've seen.

Well it's a really small screen with a good resolution. I imagine it's not that hard to look good :P

:? Didn't know the Samsung needed calibration, I was talking about the Sony XEL-1 the OLED TV which had horrible primary/secondary colours and a greyscale that turned almost green in dark spots. I've seen the Galaxy S a couple of times, it was nice, but I would need to use it more before I judge. Though the super AM OLED vs a normal AM OLED just allows it to be 20% brighter and add some more colours. Its a great feature for a phone because you can save extra power that way. Though OLED already uses a very small amount of juice.

Oh, well it does. Samsung has it set to the equivalent of Vivid/Dynamic out of the box, so the dev community fixed it. On a tv, I hate that look, but on a phone, it's grown on me. And everyone who sees it is in awe. I thought the 31" LG OLED was getting good reviews? Not sure about the Spny.

Yeah I don't like the pop that most LCD/LED TVs have, its too much. Even my EK I keep on Pure mode because all the flash aside in the end I want nearly perfect colours and almost pure blacks. Though my phone is another story... maximum brightness :P I have a Sony Xperia X1 and I just can't wait to upgrade to a faster/nicer looking phone. Most likely something with Tegra 2/3. The only problem is in Canada phones suck. We have the worst version of the Galaxy S, and my provider Rogers is getting the better version, but only in a while and by then there is no point. So the way I see it is just to wait it out.

Oh my god...Nintendo needs to start making and marketing OLED TVs. It's a perfect combination for the Wii!

No longer will we need the Wiimote jackets or wrist straps when we decide to serve the ball in Wii Sports! :P
