Which of these monitor / graphics card combos would be ideal for gaming? Price isn't too much of an issue, but I'd like to get best bang for the buck. I'm open to other suggestions as well.

The second option. A 24 inch and a GTX is of course even better but it's definitly not the best bang for buck

If you shop around, you can still find 24" widescreen LCDs using S-IPS or P-MVA panels, which will give you quality picture. However, with a lot of cheap "TN" type panels showing up in the 24" market now, you'll need to be careful. The GeForce 8800gtx 768mb is a good GPU, but your price / performance suffers.

I would argue a 20" (4:3) pro-grade LCD ($330) and a Radeon 2900pro ($280) is the best combo in gaming right now. It gives you a decent resolution for gaming with AA (1280 x 1024), you don't have to force older games into 16:10, and you have enough GPU power to handle the games coming out this year and next spring.

I'd say 22" and 88GTS 640 (or 2900XT). 24" is just too big, and 88GTX performance/price ratio is way lower than 88GTS's.
