Gigabyte motherboard

Asus motherboard

I'm torn between which motherboard to get. I'll be buying these from my local microcenter after I noticed there pricing was a little cheaper then New Egg. I was told not to get a Biostar motherboard that I had originally intended, and that I should go with an Asus or Gigabyte board so I looked on microcenters website and decided to go with one of these two after looking through microcenter's website.

So basically I'm leaning towards the Asus but the Gigabyte and a few features that I'm not sure I'll ever use. The Asus does have better reviews, so in other words I need more opinions.

Also I'll be placing an i5-2500k in this board.

While you probably won't be dissapointed with either, I've probably just had bad luck with Gigabyte motherboards. I've built 3 computers using them and in two of them the boards died within a week. Asus on the other hand, I've used for a lot of different people with zero problems. Heck, I've still got my machine from 2003 and it's still running strong with an Asus board and a Asus 9800XT gpu.

I have had very bad experience with Gigabyte boards lately as well. They used to be good back in the day, but I'm not so sure anymore. My buddies Gigabyte board has been causing him blue screens and he just bought a replacement. I've had a couple die within a couple months, and I literally just finished talking to my girlfriend who's computer is giving her trouble. It sounds like a motherboard problem, and it's a Gigabyte, I built it for her. Go for an Asus man. I just don't know about Gigabyte anymore. The features are competetive, but the quality just doesn't seem to be there anymore.

I'd put that $130 on a P67 board, should be able to get a more solid board, with that money, if you go with the older chipset.

Asus motherboards are normally better than Gigabyte motherboards (for mobos with similar specs), and here's why:

  • Asus motherboards are higher quality
  • Asus motherboards are more stable
  • Asus motherboards are better for overclocking

I have a gigabyte motherboard and it's been chugging along great. Like people have said, Asus won't let you down. Gigabyte is in no way bad, but they seem to have let themselves go with all these problems.

Asus motherboards are better ones as it has the facilities of easier to OC, XMP profiles work a lot better, Express Gate utility at bootup.

gigabyte, been strictly using them since 2006, no issues here and great priced quality boards.

Didnt know there were so many ASUS fanboys on this forum, dang... it was Asus or nothing back in the 90's but times have changed. After that I went to MSI, and Aopen. My experiences with Asus bios support hasnt been the best, like when you want to downgrade them to an older version. (I had a board that blocked me from doing that on a Athlon 64 board) and since then I went to DFI(I miss them so BAD), then Gigabyte.

with gigabyte I had sucess with these boards in my system:

965P-DS3

P35-DS3L

P35-DS3R

GA-890FXA-UD5

GA-Z68X-UD4-B3

The last gigabyte mobo i got wouldn't allow any form of overclocking or it wouldn't post and boot. RMA'd it, got another one with a broken ram slot.

my last 2 Mobo's have been asus, using the p8p67 evo at the moment and have no complaints, another thing i like about the Asus boards is the MemOK function that lets you reset your Ram setting if an OC doesn't go quite right. im not sure about the other asus P67 boards have them (i assume so) but having a power and reset button on the actual mobo is so handy.

MSI has better price/performance than ASUS.
