Okay, recently a mod team came out with a way to re-enable PhysX on the newer Nvidia drivers.

Foundhere.

I was wondering what GPU I should go with to compliment my HD 4870 X2.

I was thinking about maybe a 9800 GT, like the XFX 512MB on Newegg for $95+Free S&H.

Do you think this would be a little much? Should I try to find one used?

Find a 9600GT for $60 or $70 and be done with it.

Well, I can pick up a 9600 GSO for $60 + $20 MIR + Free S&H off of Newegg.

It has 32 more stream stream processors than the 9600 GT, but only 16 less than the 9800 GT.

The 9800 GT costs .81 cents per stream processor where as the GSO is .41 cents per stream processor after MIR.

Get the 9600GSO. Make sure its a GDDR3 model and a 768MB would be nice too if you can find it. The 384MB isn't bad either though.

QUICK EDIT

They discontinued the 768MB one and made it a 512MB so get that one since it has GDDR3 too.

The GSOs come in 512MB and 1GB variants. The one I was looking at is an ASUS 512MB GDDR3.

They have an EVGA 1GB one, but it's GDDR2.

Why the 9600GT > the 9600GSO?

The 9600 GT has a 256-Bit interface. It's also $25 more.

Well, i changed my mind and I'm going to go with the 9800 gt. SO I had to cancel my gso order.

I want to be able to bring this card with me to future builds.

HOLD IT! you can actually use a Nvidia based card as ur Physx processor while using AMD cards? How about if you have dual HD5870x2's in Quadfire and u add a 8800GT as ur Physx card? Is this possible,if so then AWESOME!

If Nvidia was smart, they would allow this ATI GPU + Nvidia Physx card support to work until the GT300 comes out. They need to accept that right now, they are beaten in the high-end market, so alot of people are going to use ATI cards for their primary GPUs. Allowing the use of Nvidia cards as physx cards puts their mid-range products into the hands of alot of people who use the new ATI cards because they're better for gaming.. but would be willing to buy a $60-$100 Nvidia card for the physx capability. I think Nvidia is shooting themselves in the foot by disabling support for using both brands together.
