I still joke about with my friends about Address unknown and "Mirrors are more fun than television"
In guild wars I also named my pet max payne, nameour guild the "pink flamingo guild (from address unknown, or the pink flamingo institute) and we have a pink flamingo as a pet for my ranger. I'd say max payne!!!
Max payne for life! but the others are great too.
HL2 for me. I didn't have HL1 on the PC, but I did experience it when my friend got it for PS2. When I 1st played HL2, I was awe struck. Recently got Orange Box, so I am playing through them one by one. Just finished going through the main game, probably for the 3rd or 4th time, and it is still terrific. I finished Bioshock not long back, and although that is a wonderful game, I don't have the want to play it again. I may do one day, just to get the other 2 endings. I know Bioshock doesn't count in this thread, but was just using it as a reference to replay factor.
Call of Duty was another great FPS, it made a mockery of the later Medal of Honor games. FEAR was another great game, very atmospheric and nice creepiness about it. I thought that the FEAR engine wasn't very efficient, it required serious clout to get high settings when it 1st came out, and was a bit choppy on my fairly modest PC at the time. In comparison, HL2 looked nice, and ran great on the same PC, which shows how good the HL2 engine was at the time.
Far Cry although half life would be a very close 2ndfhoeiuwhdousah
sorry but far cry is not better than half-life 2.
wow, nice start, so many responses!
I myself went for Max Payne, but it was close between it and HL2. Both incredible. I haven't played Episode 1 or Payne 2 yet though.....but I will.
Sorry I didn't include DOOM 3 or Quake 4, but I don't think they are in a class with these greats, and the critics agree. And no, I'm not biased against Id Software, DOOM 2 is my fav game of all-time!
[QUOTE="Bruno-K"]Deus Ex, the first one
How you forgot about D.E.?
AFBrat77
shoot, thats one i did forget, but these games on the poll are hard to replace anyways.
Was Deus Ex in 2000? or was it 1999?
Also, to get my way out of this, I'll call Deus Ex a RPG ;).
It came out in 2000, but it really was more of an RPG.
Escape from Butcher Bay. I hate the Riddick films, but this game was just damn near perfect.
Expertly combining genres in a tighly paced narrative which was hardly expansive, yet felt both engrossing and cinematic in a way games so rarely manage. Wonderful voice acting (wozzname's voicework is far better in the game than in his films, imo) and some surprisingly decent dialogue for a game make it a pleasure to watch. That the visuals are easily the equal of other hardhitting numbercrunchers of the time, like Doom 3, makes it even more enjoyable.
EfBB is just one of the best games ever made. Esily Half Life 2's equal, in my opinion.
half life 2 sucked
i vote for max payne. Wasnt f.e.a.r released in 05 too? i want to vote f.e.a.r but its not an option
TClms5400
I thought it was 2006 but I'll check
Edit: doggone it u are right, it was released near the end of 2005.
well consider this poll til mid 2005 then
I agree that HL2 is a great game, but sometimes I wonder if people have played the others up there....there areno slouches there.AFBrat77
They probably haven't. Or they're so deep in Half-Life 2 hype that they can't see the game is not perfect. It is however, vastly better than Half-Life was, and even is at the point that it can actually do justice the "shooting part" of being a shooter.
Now, I voted for NOLF, and that wasn't even a remotely difficult decision (I haven't played the Chronicles of Riddick, I have, however, played the Darkness by the same developer, which was absolutely terrible), but why isn't F.E.A.R. on this poll?

If I had room I would have included it......also, I thought it came out in 2006, though I was wrong.
Lets just say the Poll goes up to mid-2005.
