If you need macro buttons and/or media keys, then find a keyboard that's setup like that for you. Mechanical keyboards are so much better, imho, because I not only game, but I type a lot of work. You have to ask yourself what your everyday use will be. For $100, you can choose from a wide selection of gaming keyboards, so choose wisely.
Often times, you will be disappointed by the feel of the keyboard, than its aesthetics. Do the keys depress down like you want? How's the feedback? Is it clicky and loud? Obviously, I"m talking about mechanical keyboards. If you do take that route. There are different switches. Imho, membrane keyboards have terrible feedback. I can't go back to them.
Some switches take very little weight to press down. Some, more so than others. This can lead to hand fatigue. If you're really into online FPS shooters, and especially if you're competitive, you will want something that requires less weight to press down. Some gamers will say Red switches.
If you're thinking about membrane gaming keyboards, save your money and stick with a $10 keyboard. There's like ZERO difference,
