i recently got warcraft 3 battlechest and after playing for a bit it gets a bit dull (especially dota. dont ppl get sick of banning ppl and calling them fktards?) so ive decided to return it (got it form eb games). ive decided to go for an rpg game (need a good plot) and ive come up with 3 games:

Neverwinter Nights: Diamond

Baldurs Gate complete set

Ice Wind Dale complete set.

which one has the best plot? are any of them online? which one has the largest community? which one should i get?

thanks in advance

Well the cheapest :p i havent played any of them but ive just purchased Neverwinter nights + two expansions and by the GS rating aswell as pictures and video clips it seems like it could be the best one.

hmmmmm well neverwinter nights 2 got the best story award for 2006...icewind dale looks too much like diablo and baldurs gate looks like too much hack and slash. neverwinter nights looks cool (morrowind+D&D+something that seems to resemble World of warcraft)...so at the moment it looks like my best choice....plus its 4 games...

Baldurs Gate? A hack and slash? Sorry mate, but you've got the wrong game. NWN is by far more of a hack and slash than Baldur's Gate. Baldur's Gate uses a turn based combat system, where you pace and balance you're spells, weapons and items, and is in absolutely NO WAY a hack and slash.

NWN also doesn't have that great of a story, and most play it for it's excellent multiplayer and map editor. However Baldur's Gate is THE complete RPG to play. It's considered one of the most pure RPGs ever created. A huge world, many side quests, and a far more immersive story than NWN.

And besides, there are four Baldur's Gate games, three of which are considered part of the MAIN STORY, while NWN games are mostly tacked on.

Baldur's Gate is the original. An amazing game.
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast is the token expansion set to add to you're adventure.
Baldur's Gate II: Shadow of Amn, is the sequel, and simply a better game, and far more game
Baldur's Gate II: Throne to Bhall is the expansion to BGII and is the final piece of the puzzle.

EDIT: Wait, I just noticed something. You haven't been speaking of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance have you? Because yes, that's a dumbed down console port of Baldur's Gate that isn't available on PC, so maybe you were thinking of that...

There's a pack which contains all of the games you listed for about $70 here in Australia ($30-40 cheaper than a newly released game). It's called the Forgotten Realm Deluxe Set (I think :P), and if you can find it, it should be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying them seperately.

Here's a link.

If you had to get just one set...I guess I'd have to recommend the Baldurs Gate set.

NWN 1 was good for the mods/online play, but the singleplayer was a bit repetitive and boring. I liked the Icewind Dale games, but they're fairly light on plot/quests. BG is a great, all-round RPG series - one of the best 'fantasy' RPG series of all time.

I much more enjoyed NWNs 1 over NWN2 that came out just a while ago. The origianl has a much more entertaining story line and it feels like it has a lot better value. There are a good number of mods out there for NWN and the expansions (they are just tack on stories) are decent.

It's been so long since I've played Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 and same with Icewind Dale, that I couldn't honestly tell you if they are any better then NWN.

From any view you look at these games from (negative or positive), you're going to get pulled into them if you like RPGs and decent to well made stories. Once you're pulled into these games, you're going to sink hours and hours of your valuable freetime into them.

I suggest to pick them all up, but if I had to suggest an order to get them I would start with Icewind Dale, then Baldurs Gate and finally NWN. You get a good idea of how things are going to be from Icewind Dale and the story with Baldurs Gate (from what others always say about it) won't disappoint you and the modding community for NWN will keep you going for a long time.

Skip them and just get Halo 2 for Vista, since its such a good bargin to buy a 2 and a half years ago for 60 bucks:P

Oh, and the price of Vista if you don't have that yet...

And the price for xbox live account if you don't have that either and you want to play online.

They are all great, but if I had to pick just one it would be Balders Gate.

and if theres people that play online im sure BG has the bigger community

I'd totally disagree with you. :P

NWN2 is a great mix of BG2 and KOTOR, and turned out to be a suprisingly good game - better than the first in almost every way. It's certainly the best DnD game since Baldur's Gate 2.

I'd go with Neverwinter Nights simply because I personally find party-based RPGs frustrating and tedious. It was a great game though. If you end up with NWN, play through it as a monk! It presents some unique challenges, but by the end of the game, you end up with like five extra attacks per turn, and damn near nothing can get past your defense. Good stuff.

i heard that NWN2 has a really good story (got the gamespotstory of the year award). so BG2 has the best plot of the 3 games?
