Hey im wondering here, which is a better investment. Getting a saitek X52 joystick only, or getting a Track IR system and a crappy joystick. Which would benefit more in a simulator? I would like to hear from people who own these products.

personally I don't like track ir because it doesn't feel that natural to turn your head 10 degrees and it turns 50. It would be cool if you had a wrap around monitor but I think I would go with the joystick you like instead although I don't use the x52

I bought a TrackIR on the suggestion of some other guys I fly online with. It took all of 5 minutes to install and maybe 10 minutes to get used to it. I can't even imagine playing a flight sim without one now.

Same holds true for my force feedback stick. I bought an MS Sidewinder 2 FFB stick while working in Japan 5-6 years ago. I love the thing. It sucks that MS stopped making them and that now your only real option as far as FFB sticks go is that crappy like Saitek Cyborg. (Don't even bother with the Logitech one.)

I won a CH Products HOTAS system from www.war-clouds.com last year. I thought that having thestick, throttle, and pedal system would be enough to get me to make the switch from my old MS stick, but I went back to the Sidewinder a week later.

So, my suggestion is to go with the Track IR unit. (and see if you can find a used Sidewinder 2 on eBay.)

PS: The English lang version of DCS Black Shark is available via download as of today. Looks awesome!
