For some years to come , i'm gonna stick to gaming on 1080p/60fps, so i was wondering whether i need to upgrade my parts aside from graphics card which i recently did.

Here's the specs:

CPU :Core i5 2320

Ram : 8GB

GPU : GTX970

Motherboard: P61-USB3-B3

And i don't have any specific cooler for CPU , do i really need to spend money on that? (Max temp 65-67)

Your build looks good, you don't need a new cooler since you're not overclocking or having temps problems.

Your CPU might be a bottleneck in some games, CPU and mobo should be next on your list.

I'd recommend i5-6600K with a Z170 mobo (you will also need DDR4 RAM) since DDR3 is not compatible with Z170 chipset.

Thx, how should i know if there's a bottleneck ? checked CPU usage in TW3 and it was avg 85% i guess and max 100 % ...dunno if this is a indication of bottleneck or not.

@mjorh: Hard to say. What is your GPU utilization in the game?

@mjorh a nice touch will be as @insane_metalist suggested 6600K CPU with Z170 MOBO, prefered SLI one, an 4Gbx2 DDR4 kit

As for cooling depends on your case but I'd go with CM Nepton 280L

No, GPU usage is the way to check to see if your cpu is holding back the gpu. Modern games if you see 90%+ gpu usage your cpu is not bottlenecking, some games that are poorly coded should be ignored. TW3 is a finely coded game it will use 80-100% of the cpu all the time and virtually 100% of the gpu.

@04dcarraher: @horgen : Well in TW3 GPU usage is not "always" 100 percent , it floats around 90 95 85 and hits 100 sometimes ...so does this mean bottleneck ?

@PredatorRules : My case is middle-tower and i guess it won't be a problem. But i chicken out when it comes to overclocking :D

@mjorh:

if your able to get upto 100 its not bottlenecking

What a relief !

In Batman Arkham Knight it never gets to 100 tho ...However, the game is not optimized

@mjorh: That's really good. It would be a bottleneck perhaps if you saw 50-60%usage as average.

Well it seems that i've got nothing to worry about ...Considering how consoles are struggling this gen think i'll be fine till the end of this generation as we may not witness a huge step in terms of graphics ...

@mjorh: We may witness a leap in multithreaded games though.

So in that case , am i gonna need a better CPU? like the one insane_metalist suggested

It will take a few years. I agree with the others that your CPU will be the next to upgrade, but I don't think it is needed yet. If you are still playing games fine then I would suggest waiting another year.

Yep I'd suggest cpu as well and throw an ssd in there for poops and giggles.

and if you can find an i5 2500k you can get it easily stable at 4.4.

Probably a small bottleneck ( nothing major ) due to your cpu ( still decent but its getting a bit old now and is a locked Cpu that allows no overclock ) you either can get a more up to date platform ( skylake i5 or i7 plus a compatible mobo ) or imo even better you can look for a used i7 2600k or 3770k

SSD just improves load times , right?

They always seemed redundant to me tbh , and they tend to be expensive

Yeah, you can't go wrong with "used" when it comes to CPUs :D , i'm gonna go with the current build till the bottleneck becomes noticeable

a 256gb as your boot and if you're a single mmo dude like I used to be throw it on the ssd and you'll see a difference. Throw a mechanical hdd in there and you're set. I have a 1 tb WD Black and it's perfect for me :)
