i have a 1900gt, e6300, and 2 gigs of ram. ive been using the psu that came with my case, which is the xion2 case which came with the 450watt atx power supply. i dont know for sure, but i think i may need a new one due to the non working usb ports. which one should i get. i was hoping to only spend around 60 bucks, if these i have listed arent as good as ones you know of, please list them. i dont plan on upgrading any parts on this computer, so i dont need something ready for newer parts than what i have. something stable that will last me 4 or 5 years is the aim of buying a new one. thanks!

Not the first one (Rosewill) The second one is better (Silverstone) Definitely the third one (Enermax) The last one is better for RAM then for PSU's

Doesn't make much of a difference if it destroys your PC within a year, which isn't covered by the warranty usually anyway. Corsair is a good brand for RAM, but for PSU's...

Corsair are new in the PSU departement but already scoring more than older companies in the domain. Just look at the reviews.

yes, i have corsair ram after 2 gigs of guru ram failied me. corsair does make great ram...

i want a psu that is reliable, but not too expensive, but most importantly reliable for my current computer. i do not plan on upgrading or overclocking.

edit-since my old powersupply i can assume damaged my usb ports bc they dont work, will a new psu let them work, or are they broken for good??
edit2- i read that the usb ports are disabled to conserve power, so will a new powersupply reenable them?

The PSU that normally comes with a case purchase is pretty low spec. I would recommend buying a case without PSU from now on to save on the extra cost. Think about it... the PSU goes out, and the computer will not work... at all... The PSU shorts and throws 12 volts onto its 3 or 5 volt leg, and your MB, CPU, or peripherals are toast. As simple as it is, the PSU normally gets overlooked. $500 video card, $600 CPU and MB... running on a cheap PSU?!?!?! You get what you pay for... I like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817702003
Lifetime Warranty as well!

Yes, all PSU's are standard size, except those for SFF PC's (small form factor) and big 1000W PSU's or server CPU's.

There are bad reviews for the Corsair PSUs?
Please link them.

Whoever did them probably has no idea what they are doing.

The brand you want (drumroll please Dirk) is Seasonic: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&Description=seasonic&Submit=ENE&N=0&Ntk=all&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

But I'm curious to know why you think the PSU is causing your USB ports not to work...?? Do you have any more details then that?

i identified the problem with my harddrive and my usb's in another thread yesterday when the problems began. people said that it could be the mobo or could be the powersupply. i looked further into that and usb ports are the first to be disable when the psu isnt giving enough power to the system. i find this odd because they have worked fine for the last 7 weeks that i have had my computer. and my mobo has a lcd screen that displays erros, and its always fine too. so its weird that this usb problem arrised at the same time as a corrupt harddrive. i just hope i dont buy a new psu for nothing

Corsairs PSUs are top notch. You can run a SLI 8800gtx setup on the 620wt version. I would do the Enermax out of those listed, but dont forget about Antec Truepowers/Triopowers and OCZ GamerXStreams. Like Krall said too...Seasonic makes a good PSU too.

You want one of the most solid, bulletproof PSUs out there, then look for Fortron (now known as FSP Group). Fortron is really great, while their PSUs are kinda pricy, they deliver. They are made by complete gurus. They have even run some tests with them, they are very stable, and they can power golf carts. lol. Almost all their PSUs come with active PFC, a warranty, and if they die or blow they are gauranteed to not take the rest of your PC with it. Another thing is that their stated power output is their stated market. What a 800watt psu from other manufacturers delivers, a 500 watt Fortron can deliver the same. Before I sold my last PC, I had a 500 Watt from Fortron in there, it had a 7800gtx, 4 hard drives, and assload of fans, had an oc'd 4400+ Toledo core AMD, (up to 3Ghz) and when I ran a stress test with ALL that in it, the PSU showed no signs of power sag.
600watt Fortron
700watt Fortron

Now I am not saying Fortron is the best, there are other manufacturers that rival it, PC Power and Cooling is really good as well. They are famous for their 1k watt PSUs.

You can never 100% completely guarantee this, but good caps (together with a good transformer and rectifier, and a regulator) will not go bad that easily, it will kick in with security once something goes wrong and prevents hidden, small damages (like spikes and surges, ripple, etc.) will cause big damage over time, but a good PSU also makes sure the ripple is as low as possible while the AC-DC conversion is smooth as well?

bump,

i switched the cmos and then tried turning on my computer, and it wont get passed "2A" on the mobo error, which has to do with power supply, so i think ill buy one tonight, but im trying to decide on what one since everyone gave me something different. some have some bad reviews too.

which one should i go with? i really want to get a psu tonight! im thinking either the corsair one, the bfg one, the seasonic one, or the fsp group one

please help!

(still not sure if hdd or mobo is broken)

Your right about that, pricey, but hands down, apart from zippy PSU's for servers, PCP&C is the best, next to Enermax, Antec, OCZ, Fortron/FSP and... let us not forget... (drumroll, please) Seasonic (here you go Krall) :)

did anyone link a PCP&C psu? i'd really like to settle on something less than 150 dollars tonight that is reliable and has no bad reviews preferably, quiet, a warranty, atleast 500 watts, and a good rep. right now like i said a few posts ago, after reading about them, i really like the seasonic psu someone posted, the FSP psu someone posted, the corsair psu someone found, and the bfg psu.

but im open to any new options, but people keep posting different ones. is there any one psu that i could be completely satisfied with? or if i pick any of these will it do a fine job?

edit- those pcp and c ones are expensive, long, and really too much power for what i need

I would second that recommendation wholeheartedly.  Seasonic makes excellent PSUs - you get what you pay for.

The Enermax PSU is also a good second choice.

and what about my question about knowing if itll fit in my case? or if its the right kind for my ab9 mobo?

It'll fit in your case. Standard PSU's fit in standard ATX cases, since most of them are standard size. The only ones that are smaller are for Small Form Factor PC's and PSU's that are very big are either for servers or have 1000W or more... Don't mind the reviews on Newegg, I know lots of people with Enermax PSU's (have one myself) and everybody who uses it for general PC usage, but also for OC'ing and high-demanding purposes are very happy with it.
