With Kings Bounty being remade (which I'm pretty excited about), I got to thinking about other pc classics I would love to see modernized with today's technology.

If you know of a game on someone's list that is currently being remade, point it out and link the remake site!

Personally I would love to see the following:

Might and Magic 1-3, The Last Ninja, and Star Flight.

Blake Stone (more of a reimagining than a remake, like Doom 3 is for the old Doom games) and Commander Keen (Come back, Billy B., come back! :cry: ).

I'm usually in two minds about remakes, but oh what the hell...

* Eye Of The Beholder 1 & 2
* Monkey Island 1 & 2
* Betrayal At Krondor
* Ultima Underworld 1 & 2
* System Shock 1
* Lands Of Lore: The Throne Of Chaos
* Heretic

All those games could be great in a new engine, and reimagined.

crusader: no remorse was in 1995 :) i'd massively agree with TIE fighter, and would like to humbly add Star Control 2 and Mechwarrior 2 to the pot

The Ultimate Doom. We still haven't seen a game that can match the quality of Doom's "demons en-masse" game type. Playing Doom wads with Skulltag is one thing but a complete remake would be something else entirely.

Yeah, forgot about that one, I agree.

Oooh. Definitely. That would make my pants happy. Hell, I'd be popping champagne if they just remade the SS-series in some easily modable engine or something (without simplifying the gameplay or screwing around with atmosphere). They could even use the original soundtrack and sounds.

Don't agree about the sound effects. They're really, really outdated and crappy by today's standards. The music could stay, but I'd prefer the best remixes of each song from the link below used instead.

being that he mentioned series... the original system shock's sounds were outdated, yeah. and according to the box i had, the music was added on in a separate CD version? :D but system shock 2's sounds were amazing!

I'll listen to it a little later. I agree that better sound would be better. But if a modteam for example decides to screw around with SS2 sounds, re-recording Shodan and stuff, they will rape one of my favourite things about the series. I just want a team to stay as close as possible to the original content, while they improve the textures and lightning and stuff. Oh and the combat + movement of SS1, it is a bit clunky...

You already heard some of them, when I put a thread up about my favorite game music remixes.

I agree that better sound would be better. But if a modteam for example decides to screw around with SS2 sounds, re-recording Shodan and stuff, they will rape one of my favourite things about the series.

artur79

Oh, no, the voice recordings they can keep the same. A talented sound editor can make low-quality voice samples sound like they're from a real person right next to you.

I just want a team stay as close as possible to the original content, while they improve the textures and lightning and stuff. Oh and the combat + movement of SS1, it is a bit clunky...

artur79

Yes, that's a given. I was able to get used to it, but I'd much prefer just the typical FPS view and movement control.

Another vote for System Shock.

I'd also like to see Sam and Max Hit the Road remade in the Telltale Tool with the current voice actors. I like the new stuff much more.

I don't want to remake any old games.

I would prefer to have a continuation of the storyline in the form of a sequel or something new altogether!!

-Crusader No Remorse

-Heretic

-Hexen

-Day of Tentacle (still play it from time to time :P)

-Blackthorne (one of my favourite games at that time :) Blizzard really knows how to make good games)

-Wolfenstein

-Prince of Persia 1

-Prince of Perisa 2: The Shadow and the Flame

-Prince of Persia 3D (well it's from '99 but if I would really want to see a game recreated, this one would be. It is very good and the story is good too, but it was full of glitches :( I own 2 copies and I never finished it due to an error in a library)

It's not strictly pre 1995, but I'd like the original MDK remade. On the other hand, I don;t particulalry want remakes, I'd rather have story advancement, new IP's, or decent sequels which keep the feeling of the previous games

Not sure about adventure games as we all know their solutions now. And some of the later Monkey islands sucked.

Several of the SSI AD&D games:

  • Silver Blades
  • Curse of the Azure Bonds
  • Pools of Darkness

Pools of Darkness especially. That game was amazing, but extremely dated. I'll bet most ppl here don't even know what game I'm talking about. I would bet that these games haven't really been remade, because if you remade one, then you'd have to somehow fill in the story because many of them run consecutive storylines. So, you'd either have to make all of them, or combine the stories into a single game, or somehow make the jumping around work.

I saw someone mentioned Blake Stone. That game was sweet.

Someone said SimCity and Oregon Trail. Oregon trail would be a cool remake I think, but simcity... I mean, SimCity 3000 is just like all the previous simcities only with better graphics, sounds, and some new items. To remake the original simcity, you'd just take the latest one (4 maybe?) and take out a bunch of features. I don't think that would work out too well.

Well I would like a REALLY good remake of X-COM, like one that keeps the feel but has all the modern features expected from games today ( nice graphics, more features, maybe online play, etc ). And I mean done really well, not like the sequels and other crappy games that tried to recreate it.

Novalogic's Commanche series. And actually all the 90s Novalogic military games!
