I am in the process of deciding on a new rig. I went with a cutting edge PC from ABSPC back in late 2002 that is still running great, but needless to say is now outdated. I have looked at ABSPC again, and I have customized a couple of their machines, but I am also looking at a Dell that seems to be a good deal. Let me know what I should do or if there are even better deals out there. One thing I am worried about, I think ABSPC is great quality and I am afraid Dell will have lots of bs packed in/loaded on I don’t want, where ABSPC will be better tuned for gamming. Maybe this is not the case. Here are the deals I am looking at, the features with an * are what I consider to be major considerations for the package. If there are features I am not mentioning, consider all things to be equal. ABS Ultimate X8 Stealth Elite $1748.19 Vista Ultimate Core 2 duo E6300 SLI: 2x nVidea 7900GS 256mb* 2x 320 GB HD RAID (640 total) 1 GB Ram Corsair DDR2 675 (PC2 5400) Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 2 year extended warranty ABS Ultimate X9 Firefox Elite $1810.98 Same as above only Core 2 Duo E6600* No SLI one 7900GS So this model better processor, less video card. Dell XPS 410 $1,888.00 Vista Ultimate Core 2 Duo E6600 nVidea 7900GS 256mb 2 x 250 GB HD RAID (500 total) 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DIMMs* On 0Board 7.1 Sound 20’ Flat monitor* 1 year warranty So this model is basically like the ABS X9, except no nice sound card, less HD, but double the RAM, and a 20’ flat screen all for $78 more. So what should I do?

the ram and monitor are worth the extra $78.  the seems like the better deal because, if you arent storing huge amounts of data then you really dont need teh 640gb hd.  the onboard sound on the deal is probably good enough to handle 5.1

i hope you are prepared to spend somemore money on a dx10 card when dx10 and the games start coming out.  you still have some time.  and that 7900gs will do fine for a while

They are DX10 Compatible but they don't fully support all of the NEW DX10 features. Compatible and Compliant are two completely different things. You only need a DX10 card to take advantage of the new techonology built into DX10, but you can still use a DX9 based card without those features.

you could always get one of those computers now and upgrade to dx10 when it comes out or wait even more for dx10 games to be made.

You are okay for now if you get a computer with 7900gs but when a dx10 game comes out that you want to play then you are going to have to get something like a 8800 or a 8600(thats if they come out in time)

if i was buying a pc right at this point in time i would be looking for the following specs

E6600

8800GTS 320 ( cheap but still good)

2gb ram

X-Fi Soundcard ( the extream gamer is very cheap at £35)

These are the core specs i would be looking for, especially if i was looking to get vista.......

So if I get the SLI, will I have trouble later on if I go with a new single vid card but only one card?

you wont have any trouble going back to one video card, but you would be wasting some money if you plan on upgrading soon. try to do what goldmatter said and try to find a computer with those specs. that would last you for a long time and would make the transition to vista and dx10 alot easier
