Company of Heroes has a good single player but the online multiplayer isn't good imo. Red Alert 3 will have a good single player and multiplayer. COH should be really cheap by now.

It's a matter of taste. Controlling points isn't as much fun as collecting resources and building a base for me. Secondly, relic online has so many problems that it's frustrating. It's a good thing they wouldn't be using it again.
Haven't played Medieval 2 or Red Alert, but World in Conflict and Company of Heroes are two of my favorite RTSs ever. I prefer Company of Heroes over WiC though.
I understand why CoH is so beloved, but for me it was just too much things happening at once and there was too little fun for me micromanaging 4 fronts at once. Out of the bunch, I enjoyed WiC the best; its story is original and the gameplay is top-notch, especially the unique multi-player. They are all pretty cheap now and you can't really go wrong.
Total War has great battles however the turn based strategy was fatally annoying--specifically, it took 6 or 7 seconds for the animation every time you moved a unit to an adjacent province.
Not a fan of CoH or WiC...actually, if graphics aren't important then I would say Med: Total War 1.

wanting knights and catapults and cannons and footsoldiers and massive battles - cant go past medievalseries - get the expasion pack - makes the game even greater. Now awaiting new game in TW series
Anyway, all of the games you mentioned have demos available (except for RA3), so you should try them out for yourself. Play those for the week before RA3 and then when RA3 comes out, you can read the reviews and decide from there.

Go for Company of Heroes. You will never regret it. The intense moment and realistic gameplay is unbeatable compared to other RTS.
