You must be talking dynamic contrast, the real contrast ratio measurement that matters is no where near 8000:1. The best a LCD usually can have is 2000:1, which usually translates as high as 10000:1 for dynamic contrast.

Why do we need more than one HDMI Port? Also, is HDMI going to make a difference ona  720P HDTV? (I have one and want to know if it will.)

I'm already using HDMI for the PS3 and for my HD-DVD player, if I get anything else in the future like an HD Tivo I'm out of ports stince I only have 2.

Will it make a difference? Depends how good the tv does HD over component, buy HDMI is still digital and should give you a perfect picture. Component should still look close, but again, it depends on the tv.

HDMI is not just for 1080p, it's only associated with that since they were the first inputs on 1080p tvs that accepted 1080p. 2 years ago when I bought a 720p Sony it had 2 HDMI ports and there were no 1080p tvs then, and later at the end of 2005 when the first 1080p tvs came out they only took as high as 1080i over HDMI even though the tv was full 1080p.

Exactly. I've seen Sony using The Static contrast ratio measurement all the Time. 1300:1 Static is about 7000 - 8000 Dynamic

Actually, there is no industry standard on measuring CR so those numbers can be whatever the developer wants them to be.  The samsung 8000:1 does look nice though, but so does the Bravia, however for an Elite I'd go with the Samsung.
