This reminds me to write a rant somewhere (not GS, as no one would know what I'm talking about) about why they don't make TV cards like they used to. :( I have 3, from oldest to newest: Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert, ATI TV Wonder 650, and Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800. So far, the WF TV2K is the only one that hasn't given me a wealth of major trouble.

Yeah, how is the HVR-1800? The 1250 crashes a lot for me (incidentally, it crashed when i re-opened this thread :?). I has an MSI@Anywhere which did crash and heat up - but pretty ok and was mostly responsive. The Hauppauge pauses the TV for a few seconds between minimizing and maximizing which is annoying.

It should be fine for TV watching and/or recording, although I can't vouch for it in that respect since I use those cards for getting console game footage. The only reasons I ditched that card are 1) it has a 2-second delay on the video due to on-the-fly encoding (most new cards do this now) and 2) it had trouble recording from older consoles due to non-standard frame rates. I usually Google the card to see what others say about it, but be prepared to wade through pages of junk links. :P @TC: For digital TV, all new TV cards will handle it just fine.

I'm using a Diamond Multimedia ATI TV Wonder HD 650. As far as I know it'll tune non-encrypted digital cable. I just use it for analog cable in my dorm room.

Yeah, it doesn't matter what primary VGA card brand you have.
