Hey guys! So I am getting so freaking sick of playing this lame game called Call of Duty - Modern Warfare and I am wanting to get a new online shooter as my main go to game. I own Counter Strike Source, Team Fortress 2, and Day of Defeat. I know I want to get into one of those games (Cause VALVE is Amazing!) but I can't really decide which one. I would say I suck equally at all of those games so I can't really decide which one I like until I put a lot more time into it and actually get somewhat decent at the game. So which game should I put time into to get better at? I also have Enemy Territory: Quake Wars which I have only put in under an hour of game play in. I wasn't sure what to do in the game and would have to learn a bit more about it before I know whether I like it or not. I would imagine CS:S and TF2 would have the larger online communities and more clans to join. I am definitely leaning between CS:S and TF2.

TF2 has the best community and is the most fun IMO.

Yeah I really enjoyed the little bit of time I spent on TF2. All the different classes are a little bit much for me and I tend to just stick with the solider. Any other class and I can't seem to get kills. I have been killed by so many spys before too because I don't know how to tell which side they are on. TF2 seems like it has the most tactics and will take a bit of time for me to get used to. I'm sure it will be worth it once I get better at it though. Anyone have any good tutorial sites for a newb to get better at TF2? I have played CS:S more because I feel like I can just jump in and actually know what I am doing. TF2 is a different story.

Go with TF2. You'll be chasing achievements for years with that one, and the people are really nice - as long as you don't play like a moron.

The only problem i think TF2 has is that some people are very paranoid about spies (once a medic chased me through the map for 2 minutes and my team won the game because of that). Otherwise, the game is really amazing

Counter-Strike: Source is too hard for beginners and there are a lot of campers, snipers, 24/7 dust2 servers and hackers

Funny that you say that because I do much better playing CS:S then I do TF2. I have however put about 4x the amount of time in CS:S.

Yeah I have that and it's one of my favorite games.

I'm not much of an achievement chaser and generally don't care if I unlock a new one.. Maybe that will change with this game.

The only thing that sounds reasonable is the fact that its tough for beginners to get into. I played CS:S for 170+ hours, and I have not seen a great amount of campers, snipers, and 24/7 Dust2 servers. Sure, there are a couple people in the match that camp and snipe, but not really "a lot". As for hackers, don't even try. One will pop out every once and a while and the server admin will take the hacker out just like that. Its hard for me to choose between Quake Wars, CS:S, and TF2 (didn't like DoD all that much). There very different games in their own way. You do need teamwork in all of the games, but they play in a different style. IMO, its CS:S > TF2 = QW > DoD.

Yeah I know.. I just thought I would throw it in there since I have put less then an hour of gameplay into it. Wanted to see if it was worth my time compared to the other games I listed. [QUOTE="The-Mosher"][QUOTE="Lox_Cropek"]

Yeah I haven't seen too many campers on the servers I play on. As far as hackers I don't think I would know if I saw one or not. So hard to pick between CS:S and TF2... I might just have to play them both a bit more so I can better decide. Right now I am leaning more towards CS:S mainly because I have the most experience in it. Thats not to say once I play TF2 more and get good at it that I won't like TF2 better.

Counter-Strike: Source is where it's at. TF2 just isn't nearly as popular or played in leagues as much. Plus, if you get good in CS:S - that skill will pretty much transfer to any FPS you play in the future. TF2 doesn't really require any critical aiming (unless you're a sniper) and just simply isn't as awesome.

Get Team Fortress 2, so I can headshot-spam you. :D Usually when I'm out of games, I'd always return to a mixture of TF2, CSS and then L4D series once I get a few friends online.

Not going to happen.. I really like L4D2 a lot but I am after the 10 vs 10 TDM / CTF kind of game play. Games where I can possibly join a clan latter on and play in some clan games. I think I will just play both CS:S and TF2 here and there with a bit more CS:S since I already own both. If I didn't own them and had to pick between them I think I would have to go with CS:S. TF2 is a hit and miss with people but you just can't seem to go wrong with some good old CS:S.

CS:S easily.

TF2's combat is just too shallow and the game doesn't require much skill... ends up being a bit of a yawn.

L4D lacks longevity IMO

Quake Wars is piece of crap like Battleifeld 2 - you may try the demo but I ansure you won't like it; anyhow Valve games are great - all of em' from CS: Source, DoD: Source, TF2 - I'd pick them up in that order

dunno if you like "horror" survival games but Left 4 Dead 2 is pretty awesome nowdays

Counter-Strike is hard to get into now because of the fact that there are a massive amount of people that can get a headshot in less than 1 quarter of a second. Counter-Strike is great though and it can be addictive, once you start getting good at it. Team Fortress 2 is amazing although it isn't really super addictive but it isn't nearly as hard as CS and has a good community. Day of Defeat can be fun but I myself haven't played that much of it. I don't have Quake Wars.

Weird.... I always end up with a better K/D ratio in CS:S over TF2. I have put in twice as many hours in on CS:S though. Maybe it's just because I don't know how to use the weapons in TF2. The only class I can do decently good with, is the Solider. -Nice to finally see COD4 knocked down a slot on my steam profile. Hopefully it will get knocked down some more by TF2 and L4D2 :D

I prefer Counter Strike Source. I have Teamfortress 2, but I didn't like it much, seems kind of weird. With CSS, you'll have a crapload of mods and maps to enjoy from!

Portal was the first game I played when I got the Orange Box. Very cool game and I wish they would release new levels for it. Been playing CS:S a bunch and its really annoying when you unload an entire clip on a guy and he just spins around and shoots you in the head. Oh well that's a good thing. The reason why I was getting so sick of COD4 is because I found it way too easy. I'm going to see if I can't find any good tutorial sites on TF2 so I can actually have an idea of what I'm doing instead of constantly getting killed by spies or running out in front of a heavy gunners, lol.

Yea, Dan :P sounds like a good idea to look for a tutorial cause i was lost when first playing TF2 and i have yet to return to it in awhile because the steam engine is on my laptop and i need a normal working mouse, not mousepad to play a shooter obviously, but from what i was doing in it, i liked it :D wish my 360 remote would hook up to the laptop thought :(

You should get a wired 360 controller for your laptop! Or if you have a wireless controller you should be able to just buy the wireless receiver for PC. I use a wired 360 controller on my PC to play racing games and GTA IV.
