So Trials Evolution Gold edition is hitting the PC this thursday.

I pre-ordered it today and was surprised to find I could already play it, turns out they had a beta and are letting people play the offline mode of the beta version until launch.

Its as addicting as the series ever is, I planned to play for 10 minutes to get a feel for the controls and see how it ran. Even though I was having frame rate issues with Vsync on and terrible screen tearing with it off, I played for an hour and a half without blinking.

It seems like a fairly basic port to be honest but I really enjoy the series and I'm having a great time with the game so far. They are integrating the tracks from Trials HD so it is basically two games in one.

Anyone else grabbing this?

Was really considering it, but might wait till it drops in price a bit.

Really enjoying it so far! Played about 2 hours, though it's not particularly hard so far :( Got golds across the board (with only 1-2 retries on each track to attain the gold if I didn't get it the first time). Nearly on class A, which should hopefully ramp it up a bit! Great game as ever. On the performance issue, V-sync is a must. Never usually care for it, but the screen tearing is terrible! Though my fps hasn't dipped from 60 maxed out (Not that there are many options) with an HD7870Ghz edition, 2500k @3.8, 8GB ram.

I played through all of the D anc C tracks last night and yea they were quite easy but they usually get pretty challenging by the end.

I have the same PC as you except a GTX670 instead of a HD7870 so I shouldn't be getting performance issues, I might run fraps to see what is actually happening to my FPS when it feels like its lagging.

I will definately get it, but with so many games out, I think that I will wait a bit to see if I can get it a bit cheaper.

well its basically a 2.5D platformer mixed with a motorcyle racing game. you need to lean forward/backward to shift the your balance while you drive over crazy obstacles and off jumps.

I've already got it and have gold starred most of the tracks up to expert level. It's a fun challenge. P.S. You can play online multiplayer right now too.

So yeah, it's basically a high-tech Elasto Mania. Cool. I'll be getting this.

Thanks!

I got it a few days ago and I think its great so far. There are some pretty good user made tracks already and multiplayer is fun but laggy.

Even though I think Trials is an awesome game, I would advise against getting it.

Its a pretty crap PC port, performance issues have not been resolved in the release version and screen tearing is a massive issue.

Uplay is as sh*t as ever, I was trying to get my progress to sync between my laptop and my desktop. Cloud synchronization defaulted to 'off' on my desktop and 'on' on my laptop for some silly reason, when I turned it on for my desktop, which all of my progress is on, it deleted all of my progress because it had the save files from my laptop synced to the cloud and didn't ask if I wanted to upload the ones from my desktop instead like Steam does if save games get messed up.

I remember why I stopped buying games published by Ubisoft, despite wanting to 'improve relations with pc gamers' they are still total failures when it comes to supporting the platform.

It's a pretty bad port. The graphics haven't improved since the last Trials HD game I played on PC a few years ago. This might actually even look worse than that with all the muddy textures in this one. The performance sucks, and the local multiplayer support is pretty wonky when it comes to the controls.

I spent 30 odd hours on Trials 2 (the previous PC installment) and this looks far better. The little details make it look quite nice! Also, maybe there's an NVIDIA issue with this? Nearly finished it now and I've never had my fps drop under 60, and it's looked pretty nice throughout, certainly better than trials 2.

Just booted up Trials 2 a second ago. Trials 2 has much higher-resolution lighting (with more dynamic lighting), as well as sharper texture-work. In Evolution the textures on practically all of the outside levels are barf-ugly (PS2-throwback) and the lighting is hideously blurry.

I already have it on 360 but might buy it again so I don't have to turn on the leafblower. :P

Is there? Are you sure the game isn't just really blurry and ugly? Does your game look better than this?

Ew

[/spoiler]

If so, thank god, because my game is significantly uglier than Trials 2, and can't imagine how they managed to pull it off.

I'll load it up and take a screenshot. I don't know for certain, I just read that some people were having trouble with video settings and getting the resolution set correctly.

These alternate between Evolution and 2.  I don't think 2 looks better at all.  I set them both to the highest settings at 1680x1050.  There's some more pictures on my profile if you want to see.  http://steamcommunity.com/id/billythebruiser/screenshots/

I guess your eyes just have a preference for lower-resolution textures, haziness, and blurry shadows. :P

Nah. It's not a good looking game. It's just much less blurry and has more detail than the old one did. I think your screenshot might have been from a lower resolution.

No, it's not. I took it at a much higher resolution than yours in fact. I don't wish to offend you, but if you think Evolution is less blurry, then you might be in need of glasses. Evolution might have more things going on artistically, but when it comes to its technical use of textures/shadows/bloom, it's atrocious.

Here are some A/B comparisons to prove it to you. I even drew arrows on the first picture so you can't plead ignorance :) Pink arrows are pointing to textures, red arrow points to a shadow. Take note of how the textures in Trials 2 give the illusion of depth and make use of bumpmapping. Then notice how Trials Evolution consists mostly of a flat textures with no shaders, similar to what you'd find in Half-Life 1.

Evolution is even a lot worse in motion. The shadows flicker, the bloom is hideously turned up, and now I'm stuck trying to figure out why the game looks like something you'd find when XBLA first launched.

All of those I posted were in varying degrees of motion. Neither here nor there, just clarifying. I do find it interesting that you point to the shadows to say the older game looks better while ignoring what is (in my opinion) the most important objects to focus on, the rider and bike. Even the shadows cast by the bike in the old game are weirdly out of proportion and the part of the shadows right under the rider back to where the back wheel shadow starts is consistently bad. I guess it comes down to our oddly different tastes so probably not much point in debating.
