Who rembers MS-DOS? I rember it very well and still play some old games from it. Most of the games are freeware now but they are still fun to play. The games I mostly play for DOS are Duke Nukm, Duke Nukm 2, Doom (have the collectors edition on CD-ROM), Cosmos Cosmic Adventure, and a game called COASTER that was publised by Disney.

If anyone wants to share their expriences With MS-DOS. Then share it in this topic if you want too.

Ultima 7 The Black Gate was and is the best DOS game EVA!!!

Its freeware now if anyone wants to DL it, you'll need some DOSBOX.bat program type thingto make it run.

weeeeeeee:)

One Must Fall 2097... The only fighting game that was ever worth a hoot for the PC. I think it came out in 1994.

Still playing X-com ufo/tftd, fallout 1/2, jagged alliance 1/2, Betrayal at krondor, lands of lore, magic carpet, dungeon master, master of magic, colonization and a couple of others every ones in a while. Besides the graphics they still keep up with the current gen games, gameplay wise.

Yeah, everyone that gamed had to have QEMM-386 in order to get past 500k of available memory. Quarterdeck could not get out of DOS-mode and was eaten by Symantec in 1998 shortly after acquiring Datastorm (the dudes that made Procomm Plus - which most folks had for BBSing). I was in the telecommunications industry (DOS and Windows) and the transitions of technology made for a monstrous corporate bloodbath.

I still have originals from the early to mid 90's:

Steel Panthers

Crusader: No Remorse

Day of the Tentacle

Tie Fighter: The Collector's CD-ROM

1942: Pacific Air War

I still have one unopened box of the Original Doom. I pre-ordered a year in advance. id sent me three copies. I installed one set, sold another, and kept the last one sealed.

Plus others I still have to dig up from the basement back home.....

I didn't need that. I made an autoexec.bat file which made choosing between expanded and extended memory easy. I had like 5 different configurations. I simply picked a number 1-5.

I remember playing Obitus on Tandy DOS 3.1 - fun times :). I miss those days for the depth the games had (they didn't have the graphics to bolster the game like modern devs, so many tended to be a bit deeper. Thats just opinion though). I still play a bunch of DOS games, some from my original media and many re-purchased from GoG.com. I remember when I made a custom menu in GW-BASIC to make having multi-game configs easier. It was a 'simpler' time for computers, but you actually had to know more I think. Now everything has a GUI and is point-n-click [OS wise], don't need to know your OS or computer any more.

I still have an old computer, it's good for going back to DOS or Win95/98 games without compatibility or DOSBox problems.

Ultima VII is the best game ever made in my opinion. I recommend using Exult instead of Dosbox.:D

I not only remember DOS games, but I still play then a lot! The last one I finished was Twinsen's Adventure (last month).

If you don't know what autoexec.bat or config.sys means, or who Infocom was, then get out of this thread now.

Sorry you forgot to quote emm386 emulation. I remember having to create dos boots with certain autoexec and config commands. Some games were fussy with what emm386 emulation it was set to.
And with cd's you knowing your exact drive path etc. Dos days you really had to be computer literate.
People have it so easy these days what with put a disc in and Autorun pops up in Windows.

I remember when we figured out how to change the screen color and text color. That was groundbreaking.

Tie Fighter was one of the better games. Along with Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure. How I spent many hours playing these two games. I also greatly enjoyed the first Warcraft game. Other games of note: Duke Nukem and Commander Keen
