discuss. by the way, i hate it when an RPG needs to be non-linear to be great. i simply love both linear and non-linear RPGs.

I think a game needs both aspects, specially RPG's.. Thus why I rate Baldur's Gate 2 as one of the best rpg's of all time. It has the right amount of linearity to give great story, character development as well as other numerous aspects. The non linearity in alot of its parts give huge replayability, secondary stories which give variety, and a sense of freedom with challenge involved..

Games such like Oblivion imo you have less choices then most linear games...

Shooters on the other hand I don't mind.. I love HL2, and FEAR.. As well as Crysis.. But for some reason CoD4 didn't do it for me, I thought the game was incrediably over-rated as far as singleplayer goes..

I don't care if a rpg is linear when the story is good, like Kotor. Oblivion is the perfect example of what I hate in an open-eneded game, the complete lack of any interesting story/character ( the only interesting character is Uriel and he died within the first 5 min....) and the lack of choice you could make inside the game. You could join all the guild and become the guild leader, all dungeon were looking exactly the same ( you go inside 1 aylid dungeon and you will see the same over and over again with the same texture/monster...) and so many more thing...
