I won't be playing it unless it gives me a large amount of playtime. Half Life 2 and Half Life 2: Episode One was unsatisfyingly short.

Yeah its definitely because im on dialup and not because steam will be unavailable or too busy the first few days its out. The last time i installed a steam related game within the first few days of it launching it sat there for hours decrypting all the files. And for the record im on a 6.0 connection. Idiot.

Well i already have STEAM installed since i use it often, i have HL2 and Episode1 already downloaded and installed, i have TF2 already installed. So all i have to download is Portal and Episode2 which won't take long at all...

There, all problems solved. Except for the lack of mouse/keyboard.

Don't knock STEAM it's amazing. Downloading TF2 right now and pre-loading Portal. Doesn't look like HL2 Episode 2 is avalible for pre-load yet though...

Going to take a couple of hours max for me to download I reckon. I wish I could get all my games this way!

I've never had problems with Steam once I switched to cable. Dialup + Steam = Poo poo. I understand your heartache, Proudlarry. Is cable or dsl not available where you live, or is money the issue? Anyway, Steam works wonderfully with downloaded games, and the downloads are really fast. And and and, you can be playing other games while new Steam games download (jumps up and down). When I originally played HL2, I think it took hours to download using dialup. Same thing whenever there was an update. Cable is rules. But as stated previously, just download stuff at night while sleeping if you're using dialup.

Umm, they lied to you then. The only way to get Episode 2 is to buy the Orange Box. If you want Ep2 just by itself you'll have to buy it over Steam.
