Standalone prequel expansion pack to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

I certainly am, after playing the most atmospheric game of 2007.

It is also the Game of the Year in my opinion.

Oh and here's a killer screenshot, looks like a huge improvement over the original game graphically:

Image 35

Other than the visual update, we also have:

  • Improved physics
  • Improved AI
  • Larger World to Explore
  • More Weapons
  • Better debugging and optimization
  • Many more upgrades.

So who's on the hype train for this one? Methinks that I just can't resist the anticipation for this game. Lookin' forward to it more than any other upcoming FPS in existence.

*Dreams of the mods that will come out*.

Well there's a lot of potential there and many things to correct IMO.

I am intrigued certainly, but I will have to wait and see both the criticial and player responses to identify whether the flaws of the previous game have been fixed.

Not really, I didn't like S.T.A.L.K.E.R at all, but hey, maybe this one will be the first I will enjoy. I'll just read some reviews but for now, not really.

Well, they've already fixed up the engine with all those patches, and they're playing it safe this time by not making a giant leap in graphics (as in, it looks much much better, but it's not a completely new engine or something), so you can at least expect it to be stable and polished in terms of visuals.

Also, they're optimizing the hell out of this one, so that lowenders like me can play the game with lighting settings that are actually decent.

Optimizing the hell out of it, eh? Hmmm, if so, it may rekindle my interest in it. I do like the idea of the whole faction war, as well...

Considering that they're improving the physics (semi-destructable environments) and visuals while stating that the system requirements will get no higher - hell, possibly lower - I'd bloody call that optimization.

All I ask for in this game is that it runs decently on lower specs. My graphics card deserves more than its receiving from Shadow of Chernobyl.

What, you mean a demo represent a proper open world like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s?

Just put a limited (2 or 3) number of territories in the demo, and put a time limit on how long you can play the demo. Voila. Problem solved. Just choose the correct territories and story advancement sections so as not to spoil anything major.

So far this game is being previewed much like the first one. An onslaught of screenshots showing a bunch of scenery, but not much of anything else. Although the difference is the first one did that for about six years, this one has been doing it for a bit over a year. Hopefully this one is going to have a bit more substance than we are being shown.

Given the tech demo and if they can get rid of all the mindless "go fetch" quests and endless mind numbingly boring map trekking I will be down with this prequel.

I will definitely be waiting on the reviews for this game. They promised so much that wasn't delivered with the first one, that the developers have made me hesitant about this iteration!

So in answer to the OP's question ... hyped? ... no! Interested with a lot of maybes ... yes.

Remember that they have finished engine now and greater tools to work faster on the game though. A lot faster...

well, i was saying that GSC should release demo this time so that people could check how different this game is going to be from the previous one.. Stalker's a game that really confuses.. im always double minded.. i don't know if i really hate it or love it. but it had some issues which were totally unignorable.. Both minor & major bugs were there, which weren't fixed by those patches. I remember sometimes it almost made me cry & few times i really had great fun playing it... the game was so atmospheric, scary & the enviroment were believable. But still I couldn't stop being frustrated by it's...... questionable gunplay & gameplay.. or may be the hit detection & damge wasn't right. & the A.I. ? it was competitive & great btw.. but not believable by any means.

So I think if GSC gameworld releases a small demo this time, it'll give some idea of how many things they've improved in terms of gameplay. what's the new cover sytem they're talking about.. & how much new stuff will be there. If they manage to fix the numerous bugs & glitches in clear sky.. this possibily is going one of my most wanted games of 2008. So I'll wait for reviews & user feedback.

& do you know that FarCry2 is an open world game with a 50 square KM.. & I heard Ubisoft will be releasing a demo for the PC version later this year.

Is it an expansion, or can I just buy it stand alone?

It's a prequel.

I'm going to pick it up. The first one I really enjoyed even though I wasn't expecting too much. The atmosphere was awesome indeed.

I just hope the missions are going to be a bit more spectacular (think oblivion like with the multiple plot changes in missions and voice acting) and larger in ammount. And I'm personally hoping for character stats.

True but I wasn't reffering to the quality of the voice acting, just that all people have been voice acted.

*SHOCK* someone who can make a decsion by themself? I'm glad you caught that biggest loser, we can't have any self informed and independant people on here!!

Seriously dude, not everyone waits to be told to buy a game, or believes the opinionated views of others just because they have an ign/gamespot/gametrailers name badge.

Personall, I will be picking this game up as soon as it hits, seeing as how the first one didn't get the credit it deserves.
