20 FPS is the bottom for games imo. Its ok in some rts games and what not.
For fps you want 60 FPS
For SP games 40-60 FPS
Because games on PC are faster paced than on consoles. So any kind of slow down will get you killed. Since everyone on consoles are using controllers, it doesn't really matter because it takes 10 years to get someone in your sights anyways, whereas on PC someone with mouse sensitivity set to max will be able to kill you in less than 1 second, so every frame counts.
lol , i"m happy with somewhere between 15fps/25 fps playing Skyrim on my 4 year old laptop.
Everything on Ultra(except shadows on high) at 1280*800 aa off.
Because 60fps is smoother, feels a little quicker and like I'm more in control. 30fps is fine, but if I can get 60 then I'm great, I prefer it to graphics actually (since I'll turn down settings to get a smoother 60 and played Bioshock 2 on PS3 with the improved framerate option, even though it made the game look a tad ugly).
I've always wondered how that option affects the PC version, I was surprised to see it in there for the PC. You would think the PC wouldn't have to compromise on Bioshock of all games. 60 fps is just pure awesome, that's all.Because 60fps is smoother, feels a little quicker and like I'm more in control. 30fps is fine, but if I can get 60 then I'm great, I prefer it to graphics actually (since I'll turn down settings to get a smoother 60 and played Bioshock 2 on PS3 with the improved framerate option, even though it made the game look a tad ugly).

30fps is ok for a controller (gamepad). But for mouse input interface for the majority of games you want 60fps.
I'm happy with 30 fps for most games.
With Crysis, I'm happy with upper 20's.
With FSX, I'm happy with 24 fps.
Try playing CS at 30fps, then try playing CS at 60fps.
I can tolerate occasional drops to 30fps in RTS games and single-player games. OCCASIONAL.
Think of it like this: Run a mile with a 40lb weighted vest, now run a mile without it.
60 FPS feels and looks a lot smoother. I also feel that m/kb make you feel a bigger difference between 30 and 60 FPS; For example, when I'm playing Skyrim and the FPS drops to 30 (in Whiterun), it will feel slightly choppy when using m/kb, but if I plug in a gamepad there doesn't seem to be as huge a difference, this is probably because the m/kb is a lot faster than a gamepad so a higher FPS is needed for smooth gameplay.

I thought most RTS games were locked at 30 frames per second.

I've only played SC2, Warcraft 3 and C&C3, all of which are always above 30fps.I don't remember the first two. But, C&C3 has cutscenes that go above 30 fps. The actual gameplay screen is capped at 30 fps. It's not a big deal since an RTS game is very playable at 30 fps. The spare resources can be used to keep the smoothness going once units start piling up. I just played it a few minutes ago.
if the game runs smoother at 60fps and you want to avoid the screen tear then why do the developers put V-sync at 30 fps why not 40 or an adjustable one.
And btw am i right when i think that screen tearing is made when your monitor'sRefresh Rate (you know 60Hz, 3D 120Hz) is lower than what the Graphics Card is puming out in Frames Per Second?
Thanks,

even on conosle 30 FPS is mimimum or a game shouldn't be released or will get really bad review, 60 is desirable frame rate on whatever paltform. also, console has far less Frame gap than PC, on PC frame rate usually shift around from 10 to as much as 40 depend on the rig and games, on console is usually between 5 and no more than 10. that's why on PC 60 fps is so important.
