I really enjoy the 'casual' platforming games, but they seem to be too damn hard. The games like Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider series (except the 2013 reboot) aren't that tough. But games such as Rayman, Sonic etc. are a REAL nightmare. I played and beat Rayman Origins on my PC using keyboard, and as expected, it was freakin' tough (I attempted one particular level 50 times) and I ended up with a severe never injury in my wrist after beating the game, which required a minor surgery (maybe I'm the only person in the world who got injured due to a video game).
Based on people's advice on Gamespot and other sites, I bought an XBox 360 controller exclusively for platformers (I prefer keyboard/mouse for pretty much every other genre, except maybe fighting games). I started playing Sonic Generations, and although the controller felt a bit more comfortable, I didn't find it any easier. I had to repeat several most levels several times, and I'm about to give up on the game after attempting and failing to beat the stupid 3rd boss (Egg Dragoon) 31 times. Now my thumbs are sore and my wrists ache. I'm not really a bad gamer. I watched several online videos of this level, and although I do exactly what the guy in the video does, my character doesn't respond in the same way. I really believed a controller would solve my issues because so many people suggested it, but that doesn't seem to have helped much.
I really love these kind of games due to the cartoon-style graphics, catchy soundtrack and overall relaxed feel, but all such games seem to be EXCRUCIATINGLY tough. I wanted to buy Rayman Legends next, but now I'm having second thoughts. Is it just me, or are platformers really that tough? Its not that I have poor reflexes, but it seems like these games are targeted towards people who have extraordinary reflexes.
The strange thing is, I could beat such games without much difficulty when I was younger. It makes me believe that my reflexes might have slowed down with age. But I'm not really THAT old (I'm 27), and I've seen 50+aged people beat such games quite easily.
So what exactly am I doing wrong here? I'm really good at every other genre, and also a pro with Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2(which require quick reflexes to some extent).
