Alright we loyal pc gamers have seriously have had enough of WWII..Metal of Honor series, Call of duty 1 and 2, Red Orcestra, Brothers in arms, Day of Defeat.

Everyone is sick of these games them...honestly I'm tired of killing krouts with WWII guns.

But even that people are tired of these games...theres two more next gen WWII games coming out soon. Call of Duty: World in War and Brother in arms: Hells Highway. So why is it that these two developers are wasting their time with games we've played too many times and pretty much what we won't buy because we've been there and done it over and over again...

There's an old saying - If it ain't broke, saturate the market to near busting point.

I don't think they ever really went away (besides CoD4) - I think a lot of game development cycles just synchronised so there was a long dry spell, and we're about to suffer - or enjoy - the hard rain that always follows. Personally, I can stand to get a little wet.

besides, the synchronisation of development cycles may lead to some portentous and cataclysmic doomsday, so it may all be academic anyway. We may all be about to die in a hellish firestorm brought about by careless game developers. Unless those game developers are in fact Neo-Mayans who are working to fulfill their prophecy!

It was never 2012! It is 2009! The year of the WW2 FPS! WE CANNOT LET IT HAPPEN! RISE UP MY BROTHERS, RISE UP!

And ...scene. Thank you. Thanks.

You don't speak for everyone.

I still enjoy my World War 2 shooters. Mainly because I'm interested in that time frame but still, I enjoy them.
Though I am glad the industry is less focused on them, as a whole.

If you look into those two games you mentioned, you see they're trying new things things within the WW2 time frame.
World at War is taking a darker approach, and is focusing on the pacific theatre which few developers have touched (Pacific Assault and H&D2 are really the only games I think think of that done it well)
I'm perfectly aware that the Russians are featured in the other half of the campaign but in WW2 FPS', they're not too involved either. It's good to be able to play as them, too.

Brothers in Arms is focusing on the story of the war, and the relationships between the people involved, as well as focusing on squad-based game-play.

Many people I know, are highly anticipating these games.

as others have said, dont try and speak for the majority of gamers, because if developers are still making ww2 games, and they are selling, obviously there are a good number of ppl still buying them. i personally love the setting of ww2 and hope that developers will use new technologies to bring that era to life more than ever before. create a poll if you really think everyone is sick of the ww2 setting and i think you will be suprised.

From what I've heard and read A LOT of people are tired of WWII games. These people include game developers, respected pc gaming magazine editors and websites. Maybe there are some vets that still can't get enough of hearing the same ol' screaming gibberish come out of a nazi's mouth and shooting them in the face with their thompson.. I know I don't speak on behalf of every pc gamer, but I do speak on behalf of the majority of pc gamers.

you have absolutely no proof to back this claim, other than you claim you have read a lot of ppl saying they are sick of it. if you plan on having any sort of impact on ppl you should back up your claim with some solid evidence.

and some game developers may be sick of it, but if ubisoft is still producing ww2 games, i think that era is def not dead. and gaming websites are full of individuals with their own personal preferences, so saying that gaming websites are sick of them doesnt really hold much for you.

Just because A LOT of people hate WW2 shooters, doesn't mean ALL of them do. I, for one, am still interested in WW2 shooters as long as they don't cover the western theater from the American point of view because that is what is really overdone.

World at War will focus on the Pacific theater which is a welcome change and Hell's Highway will focus more on the people involved, and squad play as opposed to just killing krauts.

As others have pointed out, TC, and as has been pointed out many times on this board, only the Western theatre is tired and overdone. The Pacific is still rather fresh and untapped, and WaW is going to take place there. You keep mentioning Krauts, but WWII was fought against more than just Germans.

I kind of agree that if the game is god, I'll play, even if the material isn't fresh.

But why not get some original settings and themes on the market. Developers need not look any further than the nightly world news for inspiration.

I think he meant younger generations that haven't been gaming for as long as us, and who would want to dive into World War 2. It would be nice to have some newer games for them to try out, as well as older (yet brilliant) games such as the original Call of Duty.

i for one think the modern warfare/future warfare are the most overdone. what we need are some non westurn front WW2 games of soem of the lesser known battles of ww2, for instance the Winter war in finland! many of the battles there would work very well with the action FPS style if you look at casualty figures of 900 Finns versus 45k Soviets.

-Origin-

It is the most recent war that most of the modern world was involved in. People may tend to be more interested in games where they have a historical basis for understanding. How many countries do you think would be that interested in a Vietnam war game? That was more of an America/Vietnam thing (although I know many other countries were involved), so you'd have americans interested... but if you don't live in america/vietnam and you're not a good history student, then you probably don't know as much about that war.

If you're an american, here's a good way to think of it... how interesting would a war game seem if it was about a war between Ireland and Scotland. Actually, that sounds like it'd be a fun game... you could spend half your money on guns and the other half on whiskey and beer and then fight battles. OMG, they need to make that game

nm, my argument is no good.

In all seriousness, I would have no objection to playing a game set in a real war between countries that doesn't involve America. Maybe not Ireland and Scotland as I can't see that being the most fantastic of wars, but something like a game in the war between the Bosnians and the Serbs and all that would be awesome.

Because killing nazis and japzis never gets old, to me anyway. If they are good, I will continue to buy them. I preferred COD 2 over COD 4 by far. Half of the guns in COD 4 felt like firing toy spud guns; you know the ones where you cram the end of the barrel into a potatoe to load it.

I love WWII games, I can't wait to play Hell's Highway. Why are there so many FPS about fighting against terrorists or aliens? Its FPS, WWII involved guns so you can make FPS about that era. It works.

I for one, don't believe anything can be overdone, a slong as it is done right and effictively each time, and has some innovation that makes it stand out.

Origin, I'm pretty sure you don't speak for eveyone, or many at all, juding by the posts here. I believe it's fair to say you got served =)

I love the WW2 games. Though the USA perspective is being overdone a bit and the British, Russians, Polish, etc. only serving as a smaller portion. So much of the war has been unexplored even on the Western front. Why not ever have campaigns with the Germans? The attack on the Maginot Line or the Siege of Stalingrad? What aout the Italians? I can't wait till BiA:HH or CoD:WaW comes out.
