I remember back in the early 90s the PC had really awesome platformers such as the first 2 Duke Nukem games and the Commander Keen series. Not only were many of these platforms given high critical scores from magazines, they were also mega hits back in the early 90s(I recalled the first DUke Nukem making it as # 1 bestselling game for 1991 in the charts of many magazines such as Sahreware Magazine).

Iam wondering how come platformers are not popular on PC anymore as they were in the early 90s?I miss the old days of Commander Keen and the first two Duke Nukems!

i'm guessing since those where 2d platformers they controlled well with a keyboard but as you move to 3d plat formers a gamepad works better of course you can always plug in any gamepad and it will work just fine. And pc gamers fell in love with the earlier mouse look fps like quake and platformers weren't as popular

Console makers buy most 3rd party platforms or their companies to make more $$$$. Platforms help sell consoles, so the big 3 make their own and search out 3rd party games. As a result , P.C. gamers are pretty much S.O.L.

yet some how we get the most third party exclusives and while we've lost pc only developers alot of games console games have also migrated to pc.

Aside from the original POP and Pre historic platformers were never really popular on the PC.

Nah, you got it the wrong way around. 2d plats suck with a keyboard. And 3d is crap without a mouse.

Willy The Worm, FTW!

We used to have competitions with that game on PC during lunch breaks in the office, to see who could get the highest score. Those were the times.

Anyway, there are still Indie devs making some platform games, and there are quite a few Flash games that are platformers. Just because well-known devs aren't making them any more doesn't mean they aren't still out there. Just do a Google search. :P
