Why did Supreme Commander make an update to undo Securom?

Probably because people were having problems with it (wouldn't recognize the disc etc.) Securom is starting to be as crappy as starforce anyway so this patch is awesome.

Because not having to have the disc in the drive is a beautiful thing. Performance is better, and I can tuck away my DVD safely and not worry about it lying around anymore.

It made no sense to have it, all you needed was deamon tools and a ISO to run it pirate.

Apparently they are taking a hint from id Software. They often remove the CD check about a month or two after the game hits shelves, since that's when most of the pirating occurs.
