... tend to come out in the fall and winter season? i mean seriously not only is it bad for me (i don't have enough to buy Dragon age, mass effect 2, l4d2, borderlands, forza 3, stalker call of prypyat and other games) but isn't it bad for these companies. i mean if borderlands was released in the early summer late spring i bet they would get larger sales and it would be easier on my pocket. is there a reason that these companies release their games around this time other than the fact it's holiday season?

It's the reason why most big consumer goods come out around this time, the holiday season. Just do what I do... Buy the ones that look best to you, and buy the others throughout the following year when a. You have time to play them, and b. You have money to buy them.

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year. No other day comes even close. They want to release the game when it's fresh, new and the advertisements for it are still fresh in people's minds. There have been some cases where a game would be completely finished months before but the publishers hold off on releasing it till Black Friday simply for that fact.

It's when consumers will spend more time indoors.

holiday (aka gift) sales boosts

to give you an example, console hardware sales typically go up by a factor of around 5 in November and December over the other months.

Actually, I think it is bad for some devs/publishers, and that is why we've seen a lot of games delayed for release until next year. The holiday period is simply becoming over-crowded with titles all competing for shelf space, and it's probably a smart move to delay the release of some lower profile titles to a 'quieter' period. The plus side is that there is now a decent lineup of games coming out next year. The minus side is that there were a few titles I did want to buy this year, but now I have to wait for them.

When it comes to buying games, you just need to pace yourself. You don't have to buy all the games straight away - you'd probably find it hard getting enough free time to play all of them in the same month anyway. I usually limit myself to one or two new games per month - and the benefit of that is that sometimes the wait will reap rewards when the game price comes down.

The majority of consumer spending is done in the holiday period and entertainment products do well due to the present giving possibilities. But Robert is right - unless you have a massive hit you will get lost in the holiday stampede and probably sell less.
