I have a couple of friends who are huge PC gamers. I notice though, that they us keyboards and mouses that are wired, and not wireless. I also notice that anyone I have every seen who is a huge PC game player or so on, 99% of the time us wired mouse and keyboard instead of wireless. I was just curious why? I have no prefference or anything, it's just something I noticed.

Even the best wireless keyboards and mice have some degree of lag.

Why would I purchase a wireless keyboard and mouse for my desktop? My desktop stays put and the wires don't bother me at all. Also, changing batteries is annoying.

I use a wireless mouse for my laptop for obvious reasons.

It's because there's no power source to drain. That said, I use a cheap wireless Logitech keyboard and optical mouse although I keep wired equivalents as spares.

The main reason i dont use a wireless mouse and keyboard is the battery changing, if im playing a game and it goes dead it just annoys me.

Pretty much this. And the fact that I can't stand having to change batteries for my mouse and keyboard. Wireless keyboard/mouse/controller are totally unnecessary IMO.

There's not much of a point to using wireless for a computer since the keyboard and mouse stay at the desk the whole time. It would really only be necessary for, say, HTPCs.

Biggest one for me as far as keyboards go is NKRO. USB only allows for 6 keys to be pressed at a time, with up to four modifiers. If you're using PS/2 you get direct hardware interrupts, which is a vastly superior way to go. I won't switch to USB for a keyboard unless I get absolutely forced into it.

The best wireless keyboards and mice are still not as responsive as wired.

Also, if you have ever had a mouse/keyboard die during a crucial match/raid/part of the game, you will never ever use wireless again.

I use a wireless mouse and keyboard. Since my PC is hooked into the TV, it's useful for being able to storing the two of them out of the way.

I have to put the receivers about 12-18" away from me otherwise the signal quality just isn't good enough (I can't get it any closer!). I find it good enough for games I play, although I can completely understand why people prefer wired over wireless.

My only disagreement would be on batteries - they last absolutely ages.

Depends on your situation, I have a tray thing on my desk where the mouse and keyboard sits. Having the cable on the mouse hanging over the tray really pissed me off so I got a wireless one.

Mind you though, I had to get a 1 metre USB cable and tack it to the underneath of my desk to stop the mouse lag in games. (The receiver is quite small and wasn't strong enough to receive the signal while plugged into the back of my PC.)

Works perfectly fine now.

I don't like having to buy batteries and keeping cords tidy and out of the way is not a huge challenge for me.

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse and use them with no problems...the lag is way too minimum to make it a problem....the only downside are batteries...they go off in the worst moments....

Your batteries may last ages, but mine didn't. Any wireless keyboard/mouse that I've ever used ate batteries way too quickly for my liking.

Main reason is to avoid any sort of input lag that you will get on a wireless mouse or keyboard and my m/kb stays at my desk no need at all for it to be wireless.

I tried both wired and wireless keyboards and mouses and I'm telling you: wired keyboard = wireless keyboard in terms of lag speed and I've been using mine with the same batteries for 6 months now with no need to replace them. wired mouse >>> wireless mouse since the lag and battery life are clearly present.
