anytime any news comes up for lich king everbody is like OMG wow needs to just die already...i dont get it:roll:

Being the most popular MMORPG in the west, World of WarCraft is the trendsetter - it's the game that determines the standards of the genre, because everyone will emulate the most popular (as we have seen). And the standard WoW is setting is pretty damn low.
For the sake of the future of the genre, I want WoW to die out. It won't - probably ever, but I think it's bad for the genre as a whole. I would much rather see more games like EverQuest and Dark Age of Camelot.
[QUOTE="Lidve"]Or they are jelous because its best mmo out there and they cant play it
Well i cant play MGS4,but i wont say its bad game or something because its far from true
RK-Mara
That's arguable.
No its not, Guild Wars is not even MMO and Age of Conan is not so good as it was hyped
LOTRO is nowhere near and Warhamer online wont be neither. + Wrath of Lich King is coming
I couldn't less if it lives or dies, I'm just bored of hearing about it
I must be one of the only people in the world to never of ever played it, and never want to. Can't stand mingling with hardcore MMO nerds. Their elitism and obvious lack of female contact makes me cringe

At least most of them have respect for other people and manners
If they like it that way - so be it,they dont call you names,so mybe you should do the same and mind your own bussines

Manners? Whatever. I've played a few online rpgs and that was enough to put me off the biggest one of them all. If the smaller ones are filled with annoying geeks, i can't imagine how bad WoW is
As for minding my business, you are aware we are on a forum to discuss things, not keep quiet?

Calling someone "geek","annoying","nerd","lack of female contact" is obviously not "discussion"
It is called insulting
You can say what you like about game,or what you dont like about game. If you dont like user-base,than just say it,no need for insults
I must be one of the only people in the world to never of ever played it, and never want to. RyaHyabusa
you're not alone. I don't play it and never want to. But for me, that goes for all MMO's not just this one.

But imo that is wrong. Baldurs Gate (which i guess you like verry much) is based on D&D
D&D is famous for its "multiplayer" content. What they tried in games like Baldurs gate,is to set you in one of worlds with imaginery players (npcs)
MMOrpg games like wow are (while not story driven) mybe even closer to true D&D experience
(there are game masters who allready decided quests, and other players)

Mybe you should read SW rules. Even calling someone "dumb" is considered flaming and you clearly got pass that
But imo that is wrong.
===the similarities between MMO & D&D snip=== Lidve
well, I think it's safe to say that not everyone wants the same thing in gaming. What I want is not in MMO. I'm glad that you find my choice of games "wrong," but I'm also happy with my wrongness. As for your view on MMO/D&D, I cannot disagree with it more, but we've already digressed, and it's really meaningless to discuss it anyway. I stop here.

I never said your choise is wrong. I love every BG Planescape etc. game
Actualy,i think that Planescape Torment is probably best rpg out there
I just say that D&D and MMO have lot similarities.
Charm od D&D is playing it with friends in imaginery world created by some of players (dungeon masters)
So its similar to mmo. World is allready there, players are there and adventure can begin
Some people fear what they don't understand.
I get that some people just dont like that type of game, but i'll never understand why it's the target of so many hate threads. I don't like those Nancy Drew games...you don't see me making a blog about it, or yelling to anyone who will listen that Nancy Drew game is the devil

The only people that say it are people that don't play the game in the first place.

Who said anything about Guild Wars or Age of Conan? I actually prefer LOTRO over WoW. They are practically the same thing except for LOTRO's better community, atmosphere and quests and WoW's better PvP. But I don't really care about the PvP aspect as even in WoW it's very lackluster.
There are plenty of other MMOs than just the three most popular ones. In fact, I've enjoyed EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot, EVE Online and Ultima Online a lot more than World of Warcraft.

Well i enjoyed TechnoMage more than some other rpg's but that doesnt mean its bether.
While i liked it,i cannot allow that my reasoning be replaced by emotions
By looking at LOTRO interface, you can see how much impact WOW had on it (similar impact that LOTR books had on Warcraft Universe)

Ok, your first two paragraphs make no sense at all.
I'm starting to feel like World of Warcraft was your first MMO. Look at this picture of Asheron's Call 2, another MMO made by Turbine. Does it remind you of anything? But yes, LOTRO interface is influenced by World of Warcraft. Just like WoW is influenced by MMOs before it.
Their elitism and obvious lack of female contact makes me cringe
RyaHyabusa
You would be surprised how many females play WoW. :|
WOW simply have more of everything that mmo should have
More races,more classes,more items,more monsters,bigger world,more players,more quests,more tournaments,more events,more boses,more mounts,more jobs,more auctions,more and bether servers,bether support
Last thing i can do is post Gamespot review, which gave LOTRO (game released in 2007) score of 8.3
While wow (released in 2004 i belive) got 9.5 which just show how great it was before 3 years, and now its even bether
So by time lotro was "catching up" wow allready have 1 more expansion that also got 9.3 and now even Lich king will add more content
Lot of MMO games come and go, but Wow stays on top all these years
Just looking at one of CINEMATICS is proof enough to see how much effort was put into it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omDYiyrU7Hs
There is no bether feeling than entering IRONFORGE for example and there are like thousands of players it truly deserves name "WORLD"
NOT TO MENTION TOP NOTCH SOUNDTRACK!

And there are so many neat stuffs like easter eggs, celebrations for new year or christmas, pressents, cards etc etc
1) It's too popular. In a way, it is killing PC gaming. When people are playing WoW, they aren't buying other PC games. 10 million subscribers = 10 million PC Gamers that won't be doing anything except playing WoW (beside the occasional purchase).
2) By it being too popular, future MMORPGs are going to be based on the WoW formula. That means that if you got bored of WoW or if you just simply aren't a fan of grinding endlessly, then you are **** out of luck. WoW has got people convinced that if you don't like the game, you don't like any MMORPG.
3) It's overrated. Seriously. It's not that good of a game at all. As time goes on, more and more people are coming to their senses. Thank god.

1) Stereotype that you cannot proove.
2) Somewhat true, though this effect didnt happen with Halo did it?
3) Opinions, is that why its playerbase is still increasing?

1) I don't need to prove anything. It's just common sense.
2) You're right. No FPS following Halo copied it's formula. Except for all the games with regenerating health. Or the games with limited amounts of carried weapons. Oh. Crap. I just named after console FPS post-Halo.
3) Of course it's an opinion. I'm not arguing that World of Warcraft is a bad game as if it's a fact. But if you like grinding and planning your life around raids where you hit a few keys on your keyboard, then more power to you. The MMORPG industry will be based around just that. Not everybody is graced with such low standards in their forms of entertainment - so make the most of it.

1) ... I buy other games, and my friends do.
2) Your right, except not all FPS coming out do .... stating that theres room in the industry for other types and not everyone copies.
3) Every MMO ever invented is a grind, I dont see how you can specifically blame WoW for that.
Everything else you are saying is just some **** satire i can state about any other MMO.
Dont put yourself on a pedestal, your standards are unreasonable within a genre that is designed to occupy you for months not just 12-20 hours.

it's more complicated than that. as I observed, all those high schoolers and college students, boys and girls (tons yes) who play WoW days in and nights out, many of them are almost computer illiteral; WoW is the only game they play. I doubt, if there's no WoW, they will get themselves a Half-life, Crysis, CoH, The Wticher and etc...to play. Other MMOs might be, but not other types of games. That is, I won't call these people "PC gamers"; they are more like WoWers.
Because it destroys peoples lives, it might not affect yours but trust me... there are MILLIONS of poor souls addicted to this game because they have RL social life whatsoever.
Coming from an ex-addict myself, I got tired of playing it since I started playing just a few months after launch. I realized it's just a endless cycle of raiding for gear that will soon be obsolete. This is Blizzards formula to keep players addicted. If you want to be the best, you'll just have to keep raiding/or pvping to get that better gear, plain and simple.

Yea, I was completely exaggeration. There is a bunch of people who play only WoW and wouldn't play any other games regardless. But I know a lot of PC gamers that thrive entirely on WoW alone. I'd figure it's enough to put some dent in the industry.
