It still has several driver issues. Also when I run vista my Host Process stops working and rarely my toolbar changes into a windows 95 toolbar. It is a hassle to work on when these glitches happen.

I don't hate Windows Vista. I just find that Windows XP is better for what I like to do, play games. And the new features and things it has over XP don't phase me one bit. I'll just wait for Windows 7...

Windows 7 is going to rock. I can not wait for it to come out. Hopefully 7 will be at a minimal upgrade cost for beta testing (using vista).

To tell you the truth, I'll be sticking with Windows XP as long as I can, it just seems that Windows 7 is going to be the definite successor to XP (Not Vista). Basically the day when new software and games cease to be compatible with Windows XP, is when you will see me using Windows 7.

People don't like to change from what isn't broken. When they saw that Vista wasn't all that it was cracked up to be at first, they slammed it really hard. The reputation damage Vista has taken has pollutted many minds, even up to now. That said, Vista does use alot of memory.

they don't, they are just r oblivious to its improvements and goodness. The mainstream and overall uneducated gamer takes commercials in fully, mac commercials have bolted vista with mainly "misc" problems that are untrue/over exaggerated. Many people who have been bashing vista either has a pc with hardware from before 2005 or they just can't manage to change their OS/understand computers.

Windows 7 hopefully be more stable and reliable than vista. It is really easy to use from my beta version and I have yet to crash. They have fixed a majority of the problems from vista from what I have seen.

If you're system can handle it it's awesome! But if you have less than 2gigs of ram don't bother and thats basicly where all the hate stems from.

heck vista isn't even a resource hog, when i booted up my system, it uses 1gb of ram to start all of my start programs of my selection and then after a second it drops down to around 600mb more or less and it is good for the day. People just need to learn how to customize their experience with the OS. win 7 really is just vista with a new start bar and a few more improvements regarding user interface. It really isn't that much different the vista regarding processes and background programs. It just doesn't have all the processes and programs start up at start up like vista does by default, instead Win 7 has many processes only startup when needed by default. It is more optimized with hardware, but not by much, vista is already really good. Vista just wasn't organized as much as it could be for the users and Win 7 changes that. Both OS's are great, i wouldn't recommend XP to anyone if they were choosing between vista and xp.

Because even if people know something about computer hardware they don't actually want to take the time to learn something about computer software. At first there were compatibility problems, but besides that people hated it because it was different. Windows 7 will just be a polished version of Vista and it won't carry the Vista name so people will love it.

On the family PC with 1GB it runs fine, though it is vlited and tweaked.

I want to add on that in every single game that supported DirectX10 that I have tried (Lost Planet, Gears of War, Bioshock, Crysis, and Hellgate), I always preferred DX9, because it generally performed better and didn't really look worse. I guess DirectX10 seems rather useless for some people.

From what i've heard no it isn't, DX10 and Vista in general were a big overhaul, that's why things were stirred up.

I personally really like my Vista 32-bit. It starts real fast and is much prettier than XP. DirectX 10 is cool too. On Crysis I definitely notice a difference, mostly with explosions, the particle count is much higher with DX10. I like the customization options with Vista too. You can say what you want, but I like it and am glad I have it.

I have 4gigs of ram and a 1Gb Radeon 4870, in case you are wondering for this post.

Depends, I like XP more because Vista limits me, depending on some applications. Ive gotten a blue screen on Vista like 20 times since I built my current computer all was software problems. Also had these problems with my HP, so I switched to a ripped apart version of Windows XP.

If anything, if you have more than 1 Hard Drive, try using 2 OS's. I like to use Xp for certain programs and games cause it's more compatible with them yet. Then I use Vista is for my newer games (And DX10 of course), but sometimes a bit buggy with my older one's. Of course I check into it and see what I can do, but sometimes there's just not a fix for everything. (The Compatibility property tab is almost worthless for some progs too!) I've had some old games I just didn't wanna let go, but I had to. lol Win'95/98SE days are just over. :P

Slow to boot up compared with other operating systems. It's a massive resource hog and it's generally slow than other OS with applications and games on a whole. I would add network connectivity problems to that list which I plagued with on a daily basis.

It is still hopelessly inefficient even on systems that are fairly top-end. Also, the whole "all DVI displays must support the super-strict HDCP" issue has already become a major SNAFU that won't go away, because now it means that my $600 (when new) Gateway FDP2185W monitor - which was supposed to last me well past my original "new" build and on to my next machine - was the first thing that had to be replaced since Gateway won't provide any support for the thing anymore.  And the above is just one of MANY hardware compatibility problems that Vista has had no small part in helping to create. And in developing nations like Africa, where something around $2000 USD would be more than an average laborer's *annual SALARY* there, the idea of having to basically throw away all your hardware to buy brand new hardware just to run Vista is a financial H-bomb waiting to happen, that nobody is going to like, no matter how much nicer said hardware should be. There's also the fact that Microsoft rather deliberately removed the ability for Vista to support hardware accelerated audio capabilities from the OS, which required some serious hackworked drivers from most of the various manufacturers (Creative, Turtle Beach, et al). I can see why they chose to go the route of removing EAX from the core of the thing, but all it did was give Creative yet another monopoly, because now the only way to support both EAX and OpenAL with hardware acceleration in Vista, is again with buying another Creative sound card, this time of the X-Fi brand. From a gamer's standpoint, DirectX 10 seems like it should have been a winner... but it just isn't. Most of its API changes came directly from the Xbox 360 SDK, and require devs to make a separate binary specifically in DX10 to take advantage of any of its new functionality, which most won't have the time-of-day for. They also pretty much broke capability for supporting OpenGL, which is totally not cool. So as a net result, Vista becomes even less compatible with games... About the only thing that Vista did bring positively is proper 64-bit OS support, though this is more of technical requirement for the devs to comply than of Microsoft making it easier for them to do it. Speaking on DX10, and Vista... the GUI overhaul (Aero) I was hoping would have finally done away with intel video, because the initial iteration of it meant that NONE of intel's graphics chips were going to be compatible, and nothing on their roadmaps, either. However, Microsoft caved and intel did some serious voodoo to make their GMA garbage chips "Aero capable". There also previously was a perfectly reasonable, technical reason that DX10 couldn't be done in XP... namely, GPU vRAM virtualization. For something to be fully DX10 compliant, it had to support this. ATi indirectly was already doing this beforehand, so they were able to get a working Vista driver fairly easily. But NVIDIA had the faster DX10 hardware, and nobody on their end could get it working the way that Microsfot wanted it to work. But rather than help figure it out, Microsoft caved and made this an optional feature in a DX10 runtime update. So now, NVIDIA's stuff still not only plows past what ATi has released, but they've also removed the only real excuse to why they can't backport DX10 for Windows XP, or any earlier OS. I also have my own personal issue with the activation and lockout routines in Vista. Even if I don't pirate, the thing is far too susceptible to trying to label me one and start gradually locking me out of what I want to do with it until Microsoft decides to grant me permission to use the OS properly again. Finally, UAC... I don't care about the fact that I can disable it or "tweak" its sensitivity. I don't want it THERE in the first place nagging the **** out of me! I don't want it installed at all.
[QUOTE="exezlabor"]Its seems that it is on more or less the same structure but it is more refined and has more features.sparkypants

Because even the beta of 7 runs at near-XP performance on a system with 1GB of RAM (namely, Asus Eee).
Hate's a strong word. For most XP users, the changes just don't justify the cost.jimmyjammer69
And the positives that Vista may have don't justify the performance penalty it does have on what I'd actually want to run.

I have had vista since it was released, the retail copy. The OEM one is tied to your mobo rofl

I think its a good OS, definately grown on it since i have had it all this time.. Look at windows 7, its basically Vista with a few addons and everybody is praising it.. kinda funny.

Retail purchased OEM copy's are not tied to the motherboard. I have Vista Premium 64 OEM and have switched my motherboard already. Same with XP OEM, it can be installed on as many PC's as you llike, as long as it is only on one at any given time.

I have been running Vista for well over a year now, and can honestly say I have had little to no problems out of it. I remember more problems back when I ran XP actually, but I expect it was due to the Nforce motherboard more than XP.

If you want a better look OS and fancy new features which are fun and useful, then why does that not justify going from 2gb ram to 4gb ram which is so cheap right now and has been for a while...

People with pentium 4's and really slow other stuff shouldnt complain about vista, just upgrade its obviously TIME to upgrade if theres such a slow down, and its been proven btw far cry 2 runs better in dx10 :)

ive beta tested win 7 64-bit checked task manager under performance and it said 1gb in use, hmm so does my vista 64-bit and can honestly say for AT THIS MOMENT i see no reason to change to it.

Ive own vista since release, its been great. also since getting 4gb ram n going 64-bit its wicked cool.

Ive never hated vista in any way.. I also find it funny how on vista you can download and install the transparent win 7 theme, use the quicklaunch for programs, rocket dock for fancy UI, and when all windows are maximized its still transparent..

if ya cant handle upgrading a bit then go run windows 98

There was such a hate because the lack of driver support for Vista upon release which reflected in benchmarks pretty harshly. People just thought Vista sucked but really there isn't any that bad now, it is hardly much of performance difference with the same rig but different OS now a days. I am still on XP because I still have the same rig I built 2 years ago.

who runs that kinda hardware now? schools?

when vista came out i had a pentium D 3ghz and 2gb ram, and i think ati x1900 xt 512mb, it ran kinda slow, but after a while and a couple of updates i liked it more and more, it also got faster and faster, recently gone to 64-bit and im dead set vista owns :)

side note: still think windows 7 should just be a vista 2.0 (meaning advertise a big new version called vista 2.0 the awesomeness idk lol and have it just as a huge patch), a sp2 or 3 and not some whole apparently new os..

People with pentium 4's and really slow other stuff shouldnt complain about vista, just upgrade its obviously TIME to upgrade if theres such a slow down.jamesfffan

I've got a pentium4 and a Q6600 I can complain about performance on the Q6600 with Vista as much as I want. What shall I upgrade to?

The Pentium4 on XP beats the Q6600 on Vista booting up.

I'm first to buy Windows7 for both systems if it does offer better performance than both. I here it boots faster than both. I'm for that .

It still has several driver issues. Also when I run vista my Host Process stops working and rarely my toolbar changes into a windows 95 toolbar. It is a hassle to work on when these glitches happen.exezlabor
this sums it up.

XP was awful imo, it was so unstable, Vista seems more stable but man, I tried the 64 bit version today, holy crap it was awful, crashed so damn much I took it off and went back to 32 bit immediatly, maybe it was just a bad install idk, but I wont be using it again for a lonnnngggg time.

Hopefully you did a clean install of 64-bit software and not a "upgrade" from 32-bit to 64-bit.
