Why does Diablo 3 combat look so slow compared to Diablo 2?

What did Blizzard do to the combat? Looks like everything is in slow motion. This is based on YouTube videos of gameplay footage I have seen.

It may not be as fast as D2 but on higher levels it will be much faster I assume.

Because you won't be able to put 9999999999 points into dexterity and stamina and watch how your character swings at godly speeds.

Because the animations in D2 were just a bunch of sprites moving between each other.

Because those are low levels and a very small portion of Diablo III, Diablo II is also slow at low levels.

I don't think it's slow motion, combat looks a lot more fun than in previous Diablo games.

There is a speed stat but with limit cap to 25% (skills can break that limit cap)

While it was awesome to own on all the creeps because I was moving 10,000% faster than them, it doesn't really make for a really balanced game.

Also how often in diablo 2 would you enter a room and then have all the creeps magically appear on you?

Based on my experience playing the beta, it doesn't feel any slower than D2 was in act 1.

This... As a person that a week ago played D2 from start again for abit (without boosting or anything)... Its overall the same atleast by the start... No idea how it will be towards "end game" in D3.

This, also I am sure Higher difficulties will be faster as well. Though I could be typing out of my a#$ on that part, lol.

So uhm, did anyone even play d2? There was no Stamina stat to add points to and Dexterity did not effect attack speed...

Okay, so let me get this straight. Diablo 3 has:

  • Slow combat
  • Online connection at all times (even single player) requirement
  • Too bright colors (some say WoW look) compared to previous Diablo games

Wow, what a great game!

Could they possible ruin it more? Maybe throw in a monthly fee?

Personally, it's been a long time... and honestly, stat from all RPGs is a big blur to me now because I play too many of them. I'm kind of an RPG whore that way.

WoW look? Definitely not. I had been playing Diablo 3 beta for few days now and it's absolutely fantastic. The game speed is fine. It's worth the wait, Blizzard knows what they are doing and it seems very well balanced.

Absolutely can't wait to pick it up.

Long time, don't remember about stamina and I'm not sure about dexterity, but w/e the case with extremely high stats you could swing at least 9 times per second on a paladin (that doesn't enhance the experience in any way shape or form, it actually made fighting less appealing for me) and Baurus stop failing so much at trolling, the combat is right (it's the chaos that matters not speed of your character which is way higher than the mobs at high level), cry me a river (d'oh, you're doing it) but it's at least a valid point and Diablo 3 is way too dark, I had to set gamma to around 75% to actually see something.

I couldn't agree more. I don't mind a specific cIass having more speed if it suits the cIass. In general, I don't find the appeal of all classes swinging at light speed.
