It just seems like that and I can't find any solid reason.

Before peopel say they want to cutout the steam middleman, why is BF3 available for preorder on d2d but not steam, and arent all retail stores middlemen cutting EA? I have a feeling origins will fail, it only offers EA games which is 1 major reason and steam sucked in the beginning too and it took years for it to become what it is today, why would someone invest in a new service while steam is already a solid service and polished. Im not saying EA should not release origins cause they have the right to compete, but restricting their games from steam seems silly.

They recently removed Crysis 2, seems like you wont see any new EA published title on steam from now on.

Because EA likes to control the digital distribution themselves. They are trying to integrate their own service and make it popular like steam.

They will, because most people don't care about personal grudges of others.

They want a piece of the pie and don't want Steam to improve it's business. They'll tryto build it's service forcing upon buyers of their games to use their services, just like Valve does. Once they get it running they'll be ablenickel and dime everyone to death.

They're developing their own Steam competitor, and undoubtedly once that becomes available they'll no longer provide access to the majority of their games through Steam because they want the business on their end. If it debuts before Battlefield 3 is released, I'll be very surprised if Battlefield 3 is even available on Steam at all.

But what about d2d and just regular brick and mortar establisments, why are they only targetting steam. I would rather just buy a boxed edition than having 2 steam like programs running on my pc.

Probability-wise there has to at least be one person at EA who is not a moron, thus I don't think they'd want to ignore the platform that has the largest share in the digital games market with 30M+ users.

That sure is a cool story bro.

Is that why Steam has 30M+ users and Valve is more profitable per employee than Google & Apple?

Don't get me wrong I love steam and have over 160+ games in my steam library, but I just purchased Alice Madness Returns and it went smooth over origin. EA has been horrible in the past, but so was Steam when it first launched. Getting BF3 in retail store still doesn't mean you'll be able to add it as a non steam game to your steam library. I'm sure EA will block that from happening if their going this far as to sell only on certain distributors. I may be wrong but I guess we will see. I'm not gonna trash origin just yet, but if there's a game I really want and it's not available on steam then I guess I will go somewhere else to get it. Competition is good and it usually ends up benefitting the consumers in the long run.

EA is being greedy is all Steam is acting as a middleman between the publsher and the consumer and they are making good money off of it. EA wants to cut off the middleman alltogether and make more for themselves. It is just buisness

Maybe because Valve demands a large precentage of the sales for every copy sold on Steam, While Direct 2 Drive demands a small precentage.

To be entirely honest: I don't want all the Blizzard and EA games ruled into Steam and I doubt that to have all the eggs in the same basket would be healthly. Competition is good, and I like more the perspective of 3-4 strong digital platforms instead a single one with an overwhelming hegemony.

Outside sales and occasional discounts, Steam prices trend to be ver pesky compared to the rertail ones.

Hate is not the right word. They are obviously just trying to stay competitive in the distribution department. Steam makes commisions on sales and it is completely unnecessary for a publisher to lose that cut in their profit margins.

Sure they will lose customers in the short run, but I bet EA thinks it is a big enough dev that it can build its own platform which will pay itself off long term

Retail is something different all together but you make a point with D2D. Perhaps they don't see them as much of a threat to their profit margin then Steam. Steam does have the largest returns over any other digital distribution network currently available.

They have every right to; they built their platform from the ground up and companies like Microsoft and Yahoo denied Valve when they were looking for partnership to start Steam back in 2002-2003.

Valve takes 30% when developers use Steam as a publisher. I'm willing to bet the percentage is a bit different where there is a publisher already involved.

I swear any program with any game with an exe file can be added as a non steam game. Most people like steam because its puts all their games in one place, no one wants to have origins and steam running on their computer, especially if you dont play that many ea games to begin with

Yes, but my guess is too many people own those games to remove them from the list. Though I'm guessing that those who bought Crysis 2 on Steam were allowed to keep their copies.

Pfft Steam will be fine with out the retards titles, Alice and Bf3 are about the only EA titles I want and if anything I will just get the hard copy no problem to avoid the crap that is Origin( which it only going to be Ea titles so good luck with that).

P.S. Also smart to limit where people get SWTOR , I pretty sure that the way to try to beat the other blackhole that is wow (the other being Steam lol). EA= Nimrods.

I'm no expert in busniess but how would EA lose money by having games on steam? If you buy the retail copy from gamestop then a portion would go to gamestop and a portion to EA. With steam would it be the same thing with steam getting a portion and EA getting a portion of the profit?

Yes, but will the Steam friends interface work while in game? Thats the question I want to know. There are games that you can add as non steam games but the chat interface won't come up while in game. So what's the sense in having it there if you have constantly window out of game to chat with Steam friends or to see who's online? Many gamers including myself, don't have dual monitors.

I'm not mad about no Steam because Steam isn't the greatest thing in the world (just the best thing since sliced bread). However, I don't like this because they are almost definitely going to plug that origin crap and I really don't want to have to download another program and make another account just for one game.

And if they force Mass Effect 3 on this I'll shoot whoever is running that company, and that bullet was reserved for Kotick.

Well, since EA wants to get into the DD market, they rather take down the biggest dude on the block, which is Steam. So I suppose they treat D2D as "the enemy of our enemy is our friend". But in any event, I rather not have to divide my attention between multiple DD services, so I will be picking up a retail copy of EA games I might have interest in. I don't have particular likes for publishers in general, so I don't see any reason to give EA a larger portion of the pork.

Although EA has its own digital distribution service (Origin) and an online store (EA Store), this still does not make a lot of sense from a business point of view. Primarily because as many had mentioned already, Steam has the biggest DD consumer base and ignoring it to try and promote your own may end up backfiring. If BF3 does not come out on Steam, I will buy it from D2D then. No way in hell I am paying $60 plus dollars including tax from a physical store (HST be damned in Canada).

Hm so EA are yanking content off Steam and making it "Origin" exclusive ......... well that is going to end well for them  . If they thought sales of their software was bad on the PC before they haven't seen nothing yet. Ah well their loss, the only game I was interested in from EA is Mass Effect 3 and I am buying that retail for the Collectors Edition after that I can't see EA getting any more of my money.

Because steam allows unlimited downloads, on as many PC's as you want. Completely flexible and freedom. EA feels like Valve is throwing money down the drain by not exploiting the consumers.

Lol the amount of ignorance in this thread is bliss. You guys are calling heads of a major company idiots, but let me guess you are still in school or university and know all about marketing a service etc and have years of experience., Get off your high horse and wake the **** up. Games are nothing more than business. Battlefield 3 is going to be huge and represents EA's best chance of bringing users to there service. Anyone who has actually studied marketing in university will understand this. By limiting the number of other places the product is available at you could generate more sales for yourself plain and simple, since steam represents the largest competition for them, cut them out and what happens? More people are likely to use your service as they get desperate. By getting users to use your server you then have a greater chance of getting thme to purchase future titles.

I own a steam account from 05 and have plenty of games on their but i also own a good number on origin. People are making it such a big issue. Hey if you really want to use BF3 with steam just add it via non steam games. I mean its not like you are going to unistall it 50 times a day....

I am not saying it should not come to steam but you guys complaining about if it isnt are the idiots and not EA.

OR it could also backfire on EA and people just buy it on other DD services or through retail.
