I just bought Bulletstorm and i'm kinda scared to install it as everyone hates GFWL. I've had dawn of war 2+chaos rising which had it and had no problems whatsoever.

I hate it because it lags terribly and never syncs my games properly. I hate it because it lost my first gamertag (TheFusionmix) and I could no longer log into it and had to make a second (DerFusionmix). I hate it because it makes installing every game afflicted with it ten times more irritating.
I really miss the age of stuffing a CD into a drive, typing in a key, and being able to play my effing game without further hassle beyond clicking "Register Never" on whatever stupid advertisement box pops up.

Edit: I also hate site glitches. Thanks for the duplicate post, GS. >_>

"Games for Windows Live is a ridiculous embarrassment for the platform. Developers: if you're using it in your upcoming game, you're not doing it right. Put it on Steam, or Impulse, or GamersGate, or sell it yourself online, or just stick it in a box. Preferably with a cloth map."
Bit-tech:
"Games for Windows Live is more like the software equivalent of flossing with barbed wire"
Stardock:
"I started out as a big Games for Windows Live advocate," said Wardell. "I intended for Elemental to be on Games for Windows Live, but then as we got closer, the Xbox group took it over more and more. And they have things where, oh, if you want to use Games for Windows Live to update your game, you have to go through [their] certification. And if you do it more than X number of times, you have to pay money. It's like, "My friends, you can't do that on the PC."
" On the console, I don't have to update my game because an anti-virus program got an update and is now identifying my VB scripts as viruses and I have to apply an emergency patch. That would just add insult to injury. We've had to upgrade our games plenty of times over the years, not because we found some bug, but because some third-party program, or driver, or whatever screwed it up."
Gamespot hates it also:
As a person who doesn't really play MP, mostly, all I do is sign on, wait for it to - I guess - verify that my game is legit, and just let it run while I'm gaming. It doesn't bother me most times, but I wouldn't mind having one less account to sign into. It did seem awkward to us when I played through the RE5 in coop with my friend. The biggest beef I have with the software is that I'm required to save my GFWL profile on top of backing up my saved games. If not, I won't be able to use my saved games in the future. That annoys me the most.
Why? Because it's a POS. It was causing GTA IV to crash 9/10 when I tried opening it (yes, I know GTA IV has a lot of it's on problems). Someone here told me of a fix to allow me to launch GTA IV without GFWL, since then, I have not had a problem opening it. Though, it doesn't seem to give me any problems in Dirt 2.C_Rule
Why hate? Probably due to MS wanting to originally charge PC gamers for something they have been doing for many years for free. There are also other options that have been available that does what they are trying to do better.
because it's shuch a s****y interface and does nothing well. Everything it does, steam does better. GFWL made playing DoW2 a nightmare, and they ditched it with Retribution. People made a file called Xliveless.dll that removes LIVE from any game, and it's a godsend. I havent jumped through so many hoops before to get games running as intended with LIVE.
Why does Windows NEED me to register to play online? I hate the interface, and I hate the hassle I have to go through in order to remember which password I use for live. No thanks. G4WL can go and die.

My main hate for it comes from the fact the last 2 games I tried to play that had it wouldn't log me in. I kept getting told that it was the wrong username or password even though the exact same combo works on their website. So from here on out if I see GFWL on the box I don't buy ever.

Remember the last time i wanted to play some Dirt 2. I dont play that game all that often. So i boot up the game, but stupid GFWL wouldnt recognize my username/pass. After the eighth or so time, it finally recognized my login info but...I couldnt play yet, nooo, stupid Games for Windows DEAD needed an update. AND I COULDNT PLAY MY GAME TILL THE SUPID THING UPDATED. Which took like and hour and a half. By that time I didnt want to play Dirt 2 anymore. I wanted to play GTA IV and start killing everyone on sight to take out my rage. But that also had GFWL! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
The marketplace doesn't even work. I tried buying Gears of War and it kept saying my card number was invalid... >.>
I guess that's why I was able to buy GTA: EFLC, both Mafia games and BioShock 2 shortly after on Steam...
I heard it used to be really cruddy, use to charge for online and who the hell pays to play online twice anyways.... I personally have never had a problem with anyways.CoolSkAGuy
XBox gamers pay for the privilege of playing online twice. When MS got them to pay, they thought they could do the same with PC gamers. I mentioned this previously, PC gamers were not gonna pay for something that they have been doing for free for as long as there has been the internet and online gaming.
*edit* This does not include MMO players who pay a subscription fee to play.
The main thing that ticked people off what when Microsoft had GFWL setup as 2 different accounts: 1) Silver group, basic access or some crap - bottom line, it was free 2) Gold group, access to anything/everything that GFWL offered, but cost money - I don't remember the fee, but I think it was something similar to Xbox360 online subscription PC people laughed at this....said it would fail. Yet Microsoft still went along with it and soon afterwards they found out how dumb they were and then dropped the whole thing. This is what caused GFWL downfall from the beginning. People were irritated at Microsofts actions and didn't really give GFWL a chance - Microsoft failed to have a successful launch, yet they clawed and scratched their way out of the grave and some how managed to save GFWL. I personally never had a problem with using it, but I really never had a reason to use it because the only game I had picked up that made use of GFWL was Gears of War.I just bought Bulletstorm and i'm kinda scared to install it as everyone hates GFWL. I've had dawn of war 2+chaos rising which had it and had no problems whatsoever.

When I play GTA IV in my bed with a controller and that s**t opens up I have to go all the way to my computer to use my mouse and close it because all non-Xbox360 controllers don't work on that piece of s**t.anolecrabcf
I'm sorry but this made me laugh, but that does sound ridiculous. I never played GTA 4 on the PC yet.
