Why Does NFS Shift Run So Bad

I just got a new pc and got NFS Shift. After a white of searching the web on how to get the game to actually run, I got into a race and the frame rates are unplayable. Even on the lowest settings, the frame rate studders, albiet much more playable. WTF is wrong? These are my specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200

4GB DDR3 RAM

640GB HDD

ATI Radeon HD 4870 (with latest 9.9 drivers)

I ran Crysis at highest settings and it ran great.

It shocks you ? You must not buy a lot of EA games then. I am not excusing their behavior but I am not shocked either. Nvidia generally has more money to throw around to persuade companys to do a little more for them.

ok first of all nfs shift runs great only at nvidia cards because the game is made for nvidia. but if i were you i'll patched the game so that you might have a performance increase or you'll need to update your video card driver.

Thats strange. The game ran very good on my 8800 GTS 320 and now even better with my new Radeon HD 5850.

The 5850 is more powerful than the 4870. It might have that extra edge that could overcome any problems ATI cards could encounter with NFS Shift.

Tahts funny, dead space and spore both run fine, as well as every other ea pc game ive played (including teh shift demo)

it runs fine on my 4890

ATI probably has these problems because the Physx support wasn't integrated that well into the game, so there are only a few exceptions that for some reason run the game just fine.

That being said...Nvidia till the end.

that sounds more like a memory and cpu problem.....cause if its only wiht other cars....then its might be taxin ur cpu too much.....but what do i know

I can run it on my laptop at 1366x768 all high and 4xAA and 4xAF at an average of 28fps

Apparently its because you can't turn off the Physx (which runs fine with nVidia).

My specs are Identical to yours except you have a bigger hard drive. Anyway I have the same problem as you as well as other ATI users. We just have to wait for a patch or hopefully the new ATI 9.10 drivers help..

should patch up the game if you didn't do. I think there's a patch already out that should have fixed that.
