Blu-Ray drives are exceedingly rare. It was only just recently that PC games stopped shipping on regular CD's in favor of DVD's...

Because the size isnt needed. Also a bluray drive is just too expensive, and no one owns one so it would just be a terrible idea to do it. Bluray also reads pretty slowly, and causes dev's to place the same textures and things multiple times so the drive doesn't have to search for it as that would take too long. Theres no reason to use bluray right now.

And this "you cannot experiance 1080p on dvd9" is a lie. Since when does the size of information on the dvd relate to the maximum resolution your monitor can display? Who told you all this stuff? Ms. Information?

And unlike Console games, PC games will only need multiple disks for the installation, as while playing, you normally only need one for the cd-check.

Also, you can actually use DVD9 to store HD cutscenes, just not too much of it.

Not needed because most games dont have FMV cutscenes, they use the game engine so takes up hardly any space.

Plus the games install onto HD's much bigger than you get in consoles.

Blu-Ray PC games would be exorbitantly cost inefficient and sales would be terrible because most people arent going to shell out several hundred dollars on a disk drive.

Yet another person who thinks this 'High Definition' thing is new. I was playing half life 2 on my PC in 2004 with 1280x1024 resolution (thats higher than 720p). If your monitor supports it you can go even higher 1920x1200 if you like (thats 230,000 pixels more than 1080p).

PC games don't run from Discs like console games therefore they can be spanned over multiple discs to be installed and run from the hard drive. You don't need an HD disc format to run games in HD.

The PC version of Call of Duty 4 comes on one DVD for the PC and yet unlike its PS3 counterpart it can be run at 1920x1200 native, no upscaling.

That makes no sense at all. Most games support resolutions higher than 1080p. 2560x1600 anyone? Dont forget 1920x1200.

Is this a joke?

1080P can on a computer be experienced on a cd.

It is all about GPU, screen and that the program itself is able to utilize it. Soething 99% of all PC games are able to.

This supposed "new" HD has been around on PC for more than a decade now.
It is a shame that MS and SONY have been able to trick so many people into believing high definition is new.

LOLWUT?! *facepalm* You most certainly can experience "HD" with a 'dvd9'. Using blurays for PC games would be exorbitantly expensive and incredibly not worth it for manufacturers.

PC gamers were experiencing high resolution games before the term HD came about.

BLu ray simply is to expensive and is not mainstream enough to have games mass produced. Also you dont need blue-ray discs to experience games in HD.

I don't think PC gaming will ever get to a stage where it'll need Blu Ray. Consoles might need larger discs, but PCs are more likely to just use the 7 GB on a dual layer DVD for partial install and then have the rest be downloaded. Steam is actually a more practical distribution method, as it lets you download directly from the source and have a bunch of games ready to go anywhere you are.

add "multiple dvds are cheaper than a single blu-ray disc to print" to the list of why don't they make blu-ray pc games.

The reason console games need blueray is because they actually run the games off the disc while PC games do not.

because there monitors are too small? i dont know but i know that high definition cameras have been around for a lot longer than high definition television and that is why films such as the matrix are being released in HD, its becuase thats how they were filmed, and the only reason that HD didnt make it TV earlier is because no one gives a crap when they are sat the other side of the room and the image blends into one anyway.

There's absolutely no need for bluray PC games. Games could still come on CDs.

its true, the only reason games are on DVD now is because its fiddly having to switch between 4 different cds trying to install something, games just arent big enough to warrant the use of bluray

The only PC title that I can think of that would actually benefit from a Blu-ray option is X-Plane with the complete Global Scenery. (The scenery composes the bulk of a 60 GB installation. The whole set also amounts to one X-Plane DVD plus seven Global Scenery DVDs-that's right, you have to juggle SEVEN discs! You could easily reduce that to two dual-layer Blu-ray discs!) One problem with trying to sell PC games on Blu-ray is that most PCs just don't have Blu-ray drives installed, and probably won't until the things fall under 100 US$ or so. There's no point in trying to sell to a very small market from the publisher's point of view. Another problem is that retail PC games aren't selling because of the rise of a little something called digital distribution, as well as high-speed Internet access. Now, it's a cinch to buy a game without ever leaving the computer, and only having to wait for it to download fully rather than shipping to your doorstep! Oh, and as far as the "Blu-ray and HDMI are needed for HD" comment goes-you don't need Blu-ray discs for HD content. The reason why said discs are used for HD movies is that the video data for a full-length movie, even after massive compression, is still much too large to fit on a dual-layer DVD9 disc. You can easily put HD video on a dual-layer DVD9, but you'd have a very short length. Also, when it comes to HDMI, I don't see those 30" 2560x1600 PC monitors running on their max resolutions over HDMI-just dual-link DVI. (How high is 2560x1600, you ask? 1080p is only 1920x1080. Do the math.)
