GameSpot has a policy of playing games before reviewing them. The larger the game, generally, the more time they need to put it.
I remember reading somewhere that GameSpot generally finds it necessary to play an MMO for around 40 hours before reviewing. Now, if you think about it, there are around 37 hours in a working week, and the reviewer will probably have several other things on his plate.
Now, I know that a lot of people won;t buy the game without reading reviews, and for some reason trust GS, but think about it. The quicker the review comes out, the less experience the reviewer has with the game. Do you really actually want a review after just a couple days? Not only would the review only be a very vague and incomplete view of the game, it would be a very vague and incomplete view of only a small part of the game.
Reviewers should never be rushed, especially not when it comes to MMOs.

True, but dont forget that reviewers get game earlier before "normal ppl"
TBH I would rather they DIDN'T review it for another month or so...
MMO's constantly evolve, over days, weeks, and months of refinement and patching. The game has only been out for a week... how could they possibly review it? Basic flaws in the game code and technical issues have to be ironed out, and network stability is an obvious variable that is likely to change drastically quite soon.
They will easily be able to give hands-on updates regarding the gameplay / graphics, but as a whole they really need to explore the game completely, and see everything it has to offer before spewing out any reviews.
I think its really quite pointless to review a mmo in general. Any problems a reviewer may have with the game at the time of reviewing it months later may not even exist anymore thus making the reasons the reviewer gave the game a low score moot. Aside from that since a person's experience in a mmo is based largely on the kind of interaction they get from the community the experience is different for everyone. Mmo's are a tricky thing. You can't really know for sure if you will like it without trying it. Reason why I only bother trying an mmo now if I get accepted to beta or if there is a free trial.
I would be so disappointed if they reviewed the game without even trying some of the end-game stuff. They should at least get to level 80, and try make a city, participate in a pve raid and a pvp raid before coming with any conclusions about the game. What is the point of review a MMO based on how the leveling is, when most gamers end up having used most of their time in the end-game department.
I would not expect a review before july, it took also like 1½ month for them to review Pirates of the Burning Sea.

Funny how that never stopped them reviewing most other games very quickly after launch while they had a good fair bugs in them. Many games like HellGate london, Two worlds, etc have had massive updates which if reviewed now would receive much high scores. I wish there was a website that had changing reviews as games developed
I hope yahtzee reviews it.A1B2C3CAL
Why so he could rip it to shreds? Regardless how good the game is, he hates MMO's he has said this multiple times in his reviews.
Oh come on stop *itching GS will probably give this game 8.5 or higher. What do you expect anyway to read from the review??It's Eidos remember??Ring any bells..??Kane and Lynch ...cough.. Jeff Gerstmann,Conflict Denied ops the crappiest game ever gets the same score with timeshift and higher than turok...and now it's AoC.Oh come on it's been advertizing in GS like.. forever. If you want a fair review, play the game and make one of your own.It will be more reliable that's for sure.biltros
Shhhh! CNET might ban you too!!
Yeah, I mean, how lazy do you have to be to take a break from playing a video game. That's like waking up in the middle of the night to take a coffee break.
Nah, but seriously, there's probably a ton of stuff to test out. I would hope they'd play it and try to get a feel of what it's like at different stages (different levels) and then review it. Otherwise it won't be an accurate review.
They could be waiting for the marketing check that funcom cut them to clear..A1B2C3CAL
I can respect that you dont like the game , but all of your comments are bordering on spam.
there are around 37 hours in a working week

WOW - What country do you live in?! In the USA a 37 hour work week would be considered a lazy part time gig.

Huh? What's a standard working week in the US?
40 hours. Trust me I work it.

Hmm, it's not that much more... No offence to you of course, it's just that Spank made it sound like 50 hrs is the norm or something.
I remember I worked 62 hrs a week last summer. And 84 hrs a week for two weeks when I was 17. That was insane.... Lost 5 kg in that time. So no, we're not lazy over here, Spank. :P

84 hours a week? Don't kid yourself. What did you used to do for work, answer telephones? You do realise that's 12 hours a day, dont you? Say you slept 8hours a day, which is standard, you would have only had a gap of 4 hours to eat / wash / BREATHE.
Please, don't BS.

Why would I BS? That's why I said I lost 5 kilos in two weeks. I was a wreck. I had two jobs at the same time, A regular day job at a school and an evening job at a burger-joint where I had to be a waiter/cook/cleaner. I slept 3 hrs a day.
Try not to write things like "Don't kid yourself/Don't BS" in the future. Ask people politely: "Are you sure? It sounds like you might have miscalculated." See? Much nicer.
BTW, I've also worked 19 hrs shifts, lots of times. You're going to say that I BS about that too?

You're not very old, are you?
Just wait till you need to get 2 jobs to make ends meet. That 4 hours you alloted to free time? Gone.

Doesn't matter since you have to play MMOs with other people to really get a feel for them.
You can follow Kevin's ongoing impressions in the review blog though. Seem positive so far and I'm enjoying the game as well. http://www.gamespot.com/news/blogs/review-blog/909185210/index.html

I can assure you, being in medicine I know some people who work 100hr work weeks and residents tend to work 80hrs a week as the standard. Better luck, try to flame again when you actually know what you are talking about.
