Why hasn't there been a new SimCity since 2003?

The SimCity series was one of my first so I might just be having a nostalgia attack, but I can't quite understand why it hasn't made a notable appearance since SimCity 4.

Simulation games were always my favorite and currently Civilization 5 is providing my management-game fix, but it isn't quite the pinnacle of what I would like a sim/strategy game to be.

I think that with the improvements in technology since 2003, a SimCity 5 could be deeper, have more real-world issues, and be much more involving.

Why hasn't this happened? :(

Because it's EA and considering how good Anno 1404, Settlers 7 and Tropico 3 are I guess they decided not to try. There are also alternatives for cities, but I personally don't consider them good, Cities XL and such games.

[QUOTE="Treflis"]

Came out in 2007.

Yeah saw that, but its not really a traditional SimCity. Was not interested. I want to micromanage my ass off, not play what seems to be a third person Sims game, for lack of a better description.

I guess because EA wants Maxis to focus all their resources into The Sims franchise.

The Sims is a cash-making machine. They probably looked at SimCity and saw their was no real expansion capability there. They probably wanted to have that effect with Societies, but the game sucked so bad that nobody liked it. Were they to craft a new SimCity, during the time it would take them to make it they could have released 3 or 4 Sims expansions so why bother I guess...

Wish we got a Sim City 5 to :(

Had so much fun with the sim city games over the years, plus its sad that The Sims is taking all there time because that series sucks compared to Sim City games.

They could use another developer to make a new SimCity. They had to use someone else to make Societies because Maxis was still working on more Sims games when it came out.

I'm sure Societies didn't sell well and either piracy was blamed or EA just decided that people don't play city simulators any more.

There's a problem when a game from way back when called SimCity 4 is the best city simulation game out there.

Only thing remotely good after the last simcity was Tropico 3. societies and cities Xl aren't very good.

I'm wishing for a new SimCity. I tried Cities XL and it's not the same thing. I think I'll have to re-engage on SimCity 4.
