So, when I first started playing Counter-Strike: Source I didn't think there was anything too amazing about it.. Why are there so many people who play this game so much? I like it an all but I can't see why its soo damn popular around the world.

If you need to ask this question I think you need to go play it some more :P I love it for its competitiveness. Every other shooter I have played has been horribly unbalanced (especially MW2) that I can't play it competitively. I went back to try Modern Warfare for a bit and it was so boring. I was just one shot deagling everyone. In CSS you have to work for your kills and when you get a 5 kill streak in CSS it actually feels good verses getting a 15 kill streak in Modern Warfare and going "MEH".

It's very competitive and the gameplay is a ton of fun, once you get good.

It's probably one of the most balanced FPS games you'll ever play. The game is all about pure skill you can't rely on things like lucky spawns, cheap weapons, camping etc

This, it's one of the most popular FPS'es for a good reason. You actually have to have SKILL to play it, no dual shotgun guy calling in a nuke ending your game, no spawn camping, you WORK to obtain some SKILL. It's more satisfying getting a 3 kill streak (Not like that's a lot, I've gotten much more) then getting a 25 death streak in MW2. Getting a 40-5 in cs:s is like, the equivalent of getting a 500-0 in Mw2unbalancedPOS

Because it's a skill based game. My average kd according to steam is 1.75, which is pretty good since I play at school with a touchpad a lot. And it also accounts for goofing off. It's just so competitive, and very fun. It's extremely balanced, it's just a shame there are too many low reg servers.

Because it's a game that punishes you for being bad. It's balanced(we don't have knife SPECED dudes annoying the crap out of everyone like in MW2) And you can scrim the **** out of the game The only thing I dislike about the game is the community....at least the competitive part of the community I don't see why having 5 digits on your steam id makes you a noob.

The game is very competitive, to the point people will scream at you for getting in front of them. Too bad the community was horrible based on the 50 hours i played.

Because it requires skill, unlike most FPS these days.

I got it recently in the same for a couple of quid and could just not see the appeal at all. It's incredibly hard to get in to.

The reasons I used to enjoy it were the level design, the fact that it actually requires skill, and for how competitive it can get.

The reason I stopped playing it was specifically due to the unfriendly community... although this was about 8 years ago so I dunno, maybe things have changed since then.

I have no interest in playing it anymore. It took me such a long time to start getting slightly good at it, I can't be bothered to sink that kind of time into it again.

It's nothing special if you look at it objectively however it does what it does very well. It's very balanced, is completely skill based and has a good pace though what really makes it what it is are the servers, there are a lot of highly competitive servers out there. It's lost its uniqueness now but remember how old the original is. The reason it's successful now is because no game of it's style has managed to beat it, so all the good servers and players stay on CS.

Teamwork ?

Mist3rBungle
It depends who you play with, the game doesn't force teamwork so it's all up to you how you want to play. If you play in a clan there is a lot of teamwork, go and take a look at the pro teams if you want proof.

Very solid and addictive gameplay along with tons of mods to mess around with kept me immersed into the game. Those 452 hours (and counting) have been some very fun times.

Valve just know how to make good MP games and balance them.

I can't tell if it's hard to get into since first time I played it was at 1.2 when there was no such a thing as advanced as source engine and I've been playing it ever since. :P
