So why does GTA SA have such a large fanbase? why does everyone idolize it so much? is it because of the story? let's see. so basically, it follows the average GTA format. you start big, you climb to the top by doing missions. there was nothing special or distinguishing about the storyline, so no, it's not because of the story. is it because of the expanded map? maybe. it has a pretty large map, but how about other games with large maps, like just cause 2? that game isn't nearly as idolized as san andreas, so no. is it because of several RPG elements added such as eating, clothing, gym and character development? i don't think so, i've seen plenty of people barking on how san andreas is the best, but i've never seen them bark about the RPG elements. so why is it so special?
I see 2 options:

1. In this game, you are a gangster. Apparently this generation LOVES gangsters, kind of like Atari LOVING space, so naturally, this game yielded a lot of Gangster-wannabes which are the people barking about how GTA san andreas is the best of the series.

2. People are just jealous that their computer cannot run GTA IV, now this option may seem like trolling, but i've seen plenty of videos out there that demonstrate pathetic attempts to integrate endorphin (AKA ragdoll physics), attempt to apply new textures, new cars, and other things into San Andreas. So you are saying that people hate grand theft auto IV, and think san andreas is so much better, but yet they try to turn their favorite and idolized game into that other game they dislike? hypocrites.

What do you think, everyone? did i get it right?

It's popular because it's the only GTA game to have a lot of things you can do besides the main storyline. GTA IV gets boring fairly quick because once you beat the game, there's nothing to do.

Also there are two multiplayer systems for San Andreas that make the game really freakin awesome.

Yeah, San andreas may have plenty of useless side-missions, on the other hand, GTA IV has epic physics. i remember my first time playing, i was riding on a motorcycle , i jumped on a ramp and accidientally landed on my head. that was so epic i had to do it again, and again, and again. faceplanting with a huge blood splash should be definitely better than constantly repeating the same forklift/truck/w/e mission.

I really dont understand as to why the game is so idolized either.. I found it rather boring because of the amount of stupid things there is to do, like gymming, learn swimming, eating, etc., It defeats the purpose of playing a game i.e having fun and not doing things that you do on a daily or regular basis. I honestly prefer GTA 4 and Vice City to SA..

I LOVED San Andreas. The game world was HUGE. It was my first GTA game so maybey that has something to do with it.. but that game was awesome... they had big cities, redneck small towns, a vegas type city.. I dunno.. I really just liked exploring in that game.

To THAT. i AGREE.
Vice City is truly unique with it's lovable setting and it's mockery of the 80's.

This statement right here. San Andreas was idolised because of the amount of content the game had. It had a huge map, especially for its time. TC, you compare the map to Just Cause 2's map but you're talking about 2 games with a 5 or so year difference between them, it's just ridiculous to compare the two. But it also had a whole heap of other crap that you could, I never really cared for most of it but a lot of people did. But the game did allow you to do a hell of a lot of crazy crap, which was fun. Also, I actually kind of liked the storyline, mostly because of Officer Tenpenny (I think that was his name), Samuel L. Jackson is just so damn awesome, without him, I don't think I would have liked the game as much. Vice City was still a lot better though, in every way.

Here's your answer from a gamer who played ALL GTA games ( from the first overview one years ago ):

1. The only uniteresting thing about GTA:SA was the gangster theme and storyline. It felt less epic than the previous storyline (Vice City).

2. GTAIV is technically great. The driving controls and physics are good (though a bit too heavy), going on a kill spree was a lot of fun. But other than that there was ZERO things to do. The GTAIV world felt limited and empty.

...Which gets me to why GTA:SA is the best GTA yet. It has a HUGE immersive game world with tons of things to do. I would take a bike and go cruising around all three cities. Along the highway I would find a rest stop, go inside and play pool. I could go to las vegas and play many gambling minigames. Outside the city there was a good variety of airplanes, not just helicopters. I could steal a jetpack from a military installation. I could go swimming underwater. I could ride a truck and break into people's homes at night and steal stuff.

It's been a long time since I last played it, there are tons more things you could do. But mainly it's the feeling of freedom you had, which doesn't exist in GTAIV.

I'm a huge GTA fan, I've played every single one and completed III, VC and SA 100% and San Andreas is completely fantastic. The best GTA game, (and my favourite game ever), is GTA Vice City but San Andreas is in my top 5 best games. The story was great and the sheer amount of content was amazing. The best thing about it was the world though. When I played it I went on long drives all over the place and it was so good. I truly love that game, so many great memories of it.

  • I have modded both GTA IV and Crysis to hell and back on my rig., so one of your points that you made is gone, as far as i'm concerned. My rig is capable of maxing out any game, i do have a job, so having a high end PC is no problem for me.

  • Why i love SA? Because i had more FUN in SA. The missions have fantastic variety, i don't care about the story. I care about my entertainment in a GTA game. And IV failed big-time for me. I kept IV because i like modding games.
  • I used ENB series( better visuals) & Project OblivionHQ (much much more foliage) to make SA look a hella lot better then vanilla.
  • I'm playing it, right now, with them mods ^.

Stop being mad that people love a game you dislike. It's called human diversity. And that states that any game, no matter how loved, is going to get some hate from someone out there. Accept that people love this game, and move on. If you like IV more, that again is perfectly understandable. But don't judge what other people like.

Because San Andreas was still a GTA game. It did not take itself too seriously and just provided heaps of content while making fun of everything including itself. Granted, not all new features were as well implemented, and the game actually is buggy as hell at times, but I still managed to get a good 300-400 hours from it, as opposed to GTA IV, which I quit playing shortly after finishing the main storyline.

GTA IV tries to be some kind of real-life simulator and fails miserably at trying to find a balance between the gritty realism of this gen and the quirky ridiculousness of previous GTA games. Its critique at American society is laughable at times, and the humour is just not up to par with previous games (the talk radio stations in IV are really, really unfunny).

I do think GTA IV is the best game in the series as far as gameplay and missions go (which is not hard, seeing as the gunplay in previous GTAs was balls), but in the end it tried to be something it's not.

If people 'idolise' San Andreas like you say (in my experience, the game that gets idolised to this day is in fact Vice City), it's because they long back to the time when GTA was still GTA instead of a game that can't decide what it wants to be.

You could do a tons of things, but a lot of those things were pointless and nobody gave a crap about them. let me give you an example. i can take a balloon, i can then inflate it to make it bigger in size, but it will not get bigger in mass, it will just be full of air. in other words, you can take a game and fill it with things to do, but those things will most likely be pointless and everyone will probably ignore them. Yeah, that's true, GTA IV might not have the feeling of freedom san andreas had, but imagine if GTA IV's map was as big as San Andreas'. YOUR COMPUTER WOULD NUCLEARLY EXPLODE. GTA IV would be too heavy for anything but a Supercomputer if it was as big as san andreas. so would you prefer GTA IV to be a balloon full of air, or a crystall ball full of molten gold?

1. In this game, you are a gangster. Apparently this generation LOVES gangsters, kind of like Atari LOVING space, so naturally, this game yielded a lot of Gangster-wannabes which are the people barking about how GTA san andreas is the best of the series.

I fail then to see why every gangster related game has not sold as well as SA did. Your generalizing the people into certain catagories according to how you view it. turns out your completely wrong in your outlook on life. That means everyone who plays jrpg's are japan-phile weeaboos, or like how every 13 year old kid plays halo and cod.

So you are saying that people hate grand theft auto IV, and think san andreas is so much better, but yet they try to turn their favorite and idolized game into that other game they dislike? hypocrites.

lol if a quad core, 9800gtx, 8 gigs ram has a hard time runnind GTAIV at launch, then something wrong with the game. there should be no reason for the amount of bugs that GTAIV came with did, and no reason for game devs to not optimize and allow people with dated hardware to run the game.

What do you think, everyone? did i get it right?

no

lolpingu

As much as i like to think so, my opinions are hardly ever right, especially when not backed by any facts and are made up on the limited knowledge you possess about society. I think its idolized b/c its fun, but who knows maybe I am wrong in that assumption, your obvious pHD level education on global societies and trends must know more than me.

I'm always lazy as hell.. But i am going to give you a lot of screenshots wen i'm gonna enter the game, i'll find a few good spots.. no problem.

'till then, you don't need to put a lotta mods in it.. The only mods i've used are the above i mentioned, check them out.

There are a lot of videos on youtube with both combined, but it varies a lot, because each one uses a personal tweaked ENB, but if you tweak it yourself you can find the perfect balance.

If you're interested in other mods, or visual mods, then check this site out. -> Moddb.com

@EddieTheHead, no problem.

ENB series 0.075 version

Adds: adaptive bloom, shadows, pseudo reflections, ambient occlusions, depth of field, motion blur, color correction, water.

Here's a little tutorial for P. OblivionHQ and SRT3 (SRT means SanAndreas Retexture Mod, it retextures everything in hq, but i never used it, i'm not familiar with it)

There are a LOT of things around the net about Project Oblivion...

Oh yeah, this site and this site shall be your main guidence to make SA look like the next GTA 5 game, hah.

It's popular because it's the only GTA game to have a lot of things you can do besides the main storyline. GTA IV gets boring fairly quick because once you beat the game, there's nothing to do.

Also there are two multiplayer systems for San Andreas that make the game really freakin awesome.

Not a problem. If I had read the other guys post before reading yours, this misunderstanding probably would have been avoided. Oh, well.

I was being constructive, he was discussing personal matters that nobody gave a **** about. Once again with the balloon metaphore, i was building a wall of bricks, he was inflating a balloon.

By the way, are you like his buttbuddy now or something? i think i'll take a cyanide pill if a "friendship" has arisen because of me.lolpingu

I fail to see how stating that humans have diversity, and that logic dictates that a game you may like, will get some hate from another person, because it's natural -> has anything to do with personal matters.

Why you mad, son? Are you mad because you just discovered that a opinion regarding the game =/= fact? Or are you mad because you're just to sensitive regarding someone contradicting you. Do you know what a forum is?

I hope you didn't get suspended... i wanted to have more fun with you.

People like GTA SA because: i)There is variety in the missions.Almost all missions in GTA IV are"Drive to point X,kill everyone, return".Its really fun for a few hours, but after that it gets boring. ii)The scenery and atmosphere keeps changing.Go to the woods at night and it feels like you are in a horror movie.Go to the desert and it feels like an X files episode. The rural areas are really fun.Even the suburbs of cities feel different.Go to los santos and you will see that it has areas with gangsters AND areas where the rich work.In Las venturas, there are areas with casinos, areas with factories and residential areas. All the areas of GTA 4 feel the same.A grey atmosphere that tries to emulate real life but fails hard. iii)Less annoyances."OH nico lets go bowling!!No?Lets play darts!!No?Lets go to the bar!!"NO ONE likes this stupid friend system in gta 4.Its irritating. iv)It doesn't try to be a real life simulator. If you are inside a car in GTA 4,you aren't safe.If your car crashes you get thrown out due to inertia and while you get up,the cops kill you.The cell phone system is pretty annoying too.Get shot and *poof* there goes your phone. All this realism DESTROYS the fun value. Apart from all this,GTA 4 has less area where you can go(the buildings take up 80 percent of the city's area),there are very few guns,no tanks,no aeroplanes, less customisation,**** optimisation and the cheats aren't fun.GTA SA has cheats that change the entire game.

I didn't care about the story. I played a few missions and gave up. I kinda liked the characters though, they were funny and CJ had a good voice.

Then I downloaded a 100% savegame and just fooled around. The '90s atmosphere was amazing. The cities were beautiful and I liked exploring the countryside. It had so much variety! And chasing trains never got old.

I hate GTA4.

Exactly what this guy said. San andreas has bette missions and more varied enviroments and no time wasting crap like "lets go bowling" and its not trying to be real so much. Driving a car in gta iv was a totally Un enjoingfull experiance. I skipped the races on purpuse. Not because they were hard. Its just that i find very bad the fact that you gotta drive slow and brake for hours till your car stops. I need speed man!! Also i would like to add the terrible charcters, why would i care about Niko?

It's popular because it's the only GTA game to have a lot of things you can do besides the main storyline. GTA IV gets boring fairly quick because once you beat the game, there's nothing to do.

Also there are two multiplayer systems for San Andreas that make the game really freakin awesome.

simardbrad
^ this. If we could get the next GTA to be in San Andreas, with as much or more content as SA had, with GTA 4's graphics engine and physics....we'd be having nerdgasms

1. GTA IV had the scope of GTA 3 and some of the most dull open world and mission design about. 2. SA actually had everything GTA IV lacked, as well as an amazing multiplayer component with mods. I.e 250player servers.
