I bought 4 GB of G-Skill DDR3 - 1333 back in June and it was $64. In November before Xmas I noticed it was up to $94.99. And now today I see it's up to $108.99!! I was thinking about getting another 4 GB of RAM but the RAM I bought has almost doubled in about 6 months! Why is it getting more expensive?

Not another thread! Congrats for realizing it just now...

Yeah, I just looked at the RAM I bought it went from $75 6GB back in May to $190. It's been growing at an exponential rate! :o

I got my 8 gig corsair set for $89.98 last year with free shipping...now the same set would cost me $209.98.

Honestly I haven't been following it much lately, but it usually happens when the wafers change speeds. There are not really a whole lot of companies that are producing ram anymore (many brand names come from just a few places) and when said companies change between ram speeds there's obvciously a cut in how much of a particular speed is then on the market. Hence less ram, more money.

I'd guess that's what's going on now.

I'm sure that is also why motherboards have gone up (they have memeory chips on them), and why SSDs are still so expensive and are not comming down in price at all yet. After all an SSD is just a big RAM drive.

The entire semiconductor industry is finally beginning to show signs of life after an abysmal 2009.

I wanted to get another 4 gigs of the same ram I got in summer. The prices just suck now.

I might bite the bullet and do it though.

This happened about 3 years ago and I think it was Samsung that got sued for price fixing.

Part of the reason might be that since DDR3 is still a newer technology for consumers to buy, it started high and came down in price to help push sales. Once things started to catch on the increase in prices set in.

Manufacturers are also looking to try and push DDR2 to the backside of sales, thus dropping the production rate on them which forces the prices up. Kind of like what happened with DDR - yeah you can still buy it, but the price you pay for it is pretty steep considering the other technologies that are out there for RAM.

The ADATA 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 memory that I have (actually have 2 sets for 8GB total) only cost me about $39.99 for the first set and I spent $45.99 for the second set about 8 months later. I think the same set costs now $89.99 (8 months after I bought my second set).

**Checked past purchase dates & prices and made adjustments**
