It is just so boring the maps feel so static and resource gathering is the most tedious and boring thing in the world. My Favourite RTS is CoH and it fixed that problem with capture points which makes the gameplay much more fun as you have to fight for resources. It means you can start the game a different way each time and you can come back late in a match just by ninja capping points. In Starcraft 2 you always start the same boring way gathering those resources and matches are normally decided within the first 5 mins based on the economy of it.

In CoH as well you have so much destruction and the map is completly flattened by the end of the match. I love how a standard Infantry soldier cannot kill a tank by shooting at it too, yet in Starcraft 2 if you get enough of them they can, it's so dumb and you should need proper AV to kill one. I love how CoH has cover and how your troops have their own A.I and will take cover and find targets by themselves and yet in Starcraft 2 there is none of that.

I just don't understand how it could have become so popular apart from having the Blizzard name to it and a much better UI for finding matches than CoH. Even the Single Player wasn't very interesting, the story was so cheesy and worse than the original. The game didn't even play any different from the original and to me that just makes the Single Player boring, it felt like I played it already. The whole "adventure game" bit inbetween each mission wasn't even good like people said too. There was no adventure part to it and you just clicked on things on the screen that were highlighted. You just listened to characters that were dull and I had no care for because it all felt poorly written and cheesy. Valve made the best characters ever with Portal 2 IMO, it was so amazingly written and funny, yet Blizzard just make cliche characters all the time.

I just don't get it, to me it is riding the success of the first one and people jumped on the band wagon.

CoH is a reasonable game, however it suffers from severe balance issues. Sc2 on the other hand is extremely balanced and polished which as a result is the reason why it is the most popular RTS and draws in thousands of viewers and attention.

Blizzard's track record. Well-balanced, polished, excellent optimization, and it's great. That's why it's so popular.

I don't know what you just wrote because frankly I stopped at resource gathering is boring, this is a fast paced games, the most intense you can find, most balanced, best SP campaign in a long time even if over the top, if you have time to be bored by resource gathering, you're either not playing a human, or you're playing the lowest AI, in short you're not playing it right, resource gathering is like breathing, you have to sustain it, but it's not even 5% of a match, watch some replays, watch commentaries from Husky and HDStarcraft, get better.

The only problem it has is that all your hard work in a match can be destroyed with a single mistake if the opponent is great, in short, it's the most rewarding and frustrating experience you can have in an RTS.

CoH is more than a 'reasonable' game, It's one of the best imo.

Because, frankly, it's a very simple game, but also VERY complitcated and deep....at the same time. For example, in games like CoH or c&c vehicles take more damage from the back and rear, they can run over infantry, etc. In Starcraft, it's a very simple damage-amor-HP model, yet, the game is so balanced and the units work with each other so well, that it makes the game far deeper and more complicated than any other RTS, really.

The SP is arguably the best campaign made in this generation for an RTS, the editor is huge, the races are almost balanced despite the completely different mechanics each race works with, the possibilities for a single match are infinite.

It was made from ground up to be replayable and competitive, that's why.

All three races are extremely balanced, the entire game reeks of polish, it can run on nearly any modern computers, and the gameplay is smooth and fluid.

Well, it's well-balanced. Also, it's got Blizzard's name on it. The matches are quick and things never really get too complicated for the average person to follow.

For me, once I noticed that lack of scale, now I can't not see it and it bothers me when I play.

Mmm that's debatable. Isn't starcraft2 almost entirely gpu dependant, with little to no multicore optimization?

balanced, polished, great story, fun, multitudes of multiplayer options, competitiveness, reliance on skill to succeed, one of the more exciting RTS games.

There are a lot of reasons behind the popularity of Starcraft 2. I think you're just not a strategy fan. :|

And I am definitely a strategy fan and don't love SC2. Together, we disprove the theory!

It's the sequel to an extremely popular game by an extremely popular company. And it's not completely terrible.
