can someone please explain to me why people think this game is so fun? when i first bought orange box i was so excited because i was hoping for a very competitive gaming experience but i was pretty disappointed. dont get me wrong, if you have the right group of guys, the teamplay aspect of it is pretty cool. but i generally just dont feel any sense of satisfaction when i play it as an individual. i feel like public games are just constant spamming. demomen constantly spam choke poitns with grenades and proxy mines, heavys spam a buttload of bullets almost randomly, soldiers just jump and spam rockets like theres no tomorrow, etc etc. i am an competitive fps fanatic and have been playing cs since the early betas, as well as ut, cod, etc etc. every now and then i install this game to play it and get bored within 30 minutes. total ive clocked in like 100hrs about, since the release and i really just dont get it. why do you guys like it so much?

Your using pubs as a basis for teamwork? Bad idea dude. If I were you I would join a league like TWL or CEVO, I know the game was much funner for me when I was in CEVO-P. To the original question the game WAS (before they destroyed the perfect balance it had) fun because every class is unique and in a competitive match one man dead, especially the Medic, means the match or point is lost. I have 600 hours at the least into it and play Medic as my main and Soldier or Demoman depending on our lineup (not overly good at Scout but can play him) so I do have a good grip on the game.

You're playing it as a competitive game, there's your problem, it's not a competitive game, it's fun game you don't play it to go up in ranks and brag about your mad skills.

The 12 reasons why i love TF2

1. Great teamwork is needed

2. Each class is so unique and has there positives and negatives

3. Its probably the most balanced team based/class based shooter in ages

4. Great humour

5. Amazing community for the pc version

6. hundreds of awesome user made maps

7. The best gameplay

8. Takes awhile to master each class, but at the same time you can come in and have fun right away

9. The best upgrades/updates of any online FPS (new weapons,maps,etc..)

10. The fun factor is just so high and the game never gets boring. Ive had the game since Beta and im still so hooked on it.

11. Nice graphics that look like Toy Story type graphics

12. Game rungs VERY VERY WELL

13. The game is very very deep

Need any more reasons? :P

So many shooters these days i feel like its a chore to play them online, they all get boring quick and seem like the same old game over and over. But with TF2 its something unique and a breath of fresh air, especially with all these Call Of Duty/Halo games out there these days.

when people tell you you need to be in a league to enjoy a game, you know there's something fundementally wrong about it. i share you sentiments, TC.

Never played a league game on tf2 in my life and still love the game, so i dont agree with that comment at all.

You can join a random game and its fun or you can join the servers you have on your favorites list and wiht people you have played with before.

Definatly dont need to be in a league to enjoy tf2 imo. Its a game i can just jump on at any random time for a few rounds or for 4 hours.

1. Great teamwork is needed

true. but that also means frustration and waste of time ( to get the right team/server ).

2. Each class is so unique and has there positives and negatives

I agree.

3. Its probably the most balanced team based/class based shooter in ages

Lol, completely disagree.

4. Great humour

indeed. pretty interesting artistic presentation.

5. Amazing community for the pc version

nope. it's nothing special compared to other communities, and it's smaller.

6. hundreds of awesome user made maps

yep. but the maps don't change the gameplay.

7. The best gameplay

glad you like it, but it's not true.

8. Takes awhile to master each **** but at the same time you can come in and have fun right away

yep. Just like every other titles.

9. The best upgrades/updates of any online FPS (new weapons,maps,etc..)

i agree. it's the only online fps that's getting updated frequently.

10. The fun factor is just so high and the game never gets boring. Ive had the game since Beta and im still so hooked on it.

well. glad you like it.

11. Nice graphics that look like Toy Story type graphics

I like the graphics too, yes.

12. Game rungs VERY VERY WELL

it loads slower than many other online fps i've played.

13. The game is very very deep

doesn't matter if it bores people in 30 min.

Need any more reasons? :P

Just the amount of things to unlock, the different game modes, the team work, and the different classes are freaking amazing.

Well reading these points seem valid, but I too have tried to find what fun there is in Team Fortress 2 but ended up disgruntled and disappointed to be honest.

its a stupid shallow game that removed most of wat made tfc great, valve catered to the casual gamer crowd i.e. the nubs removing watever depth it could have had, its so shallow it needs regular updates to keep people playing

I've played TFC religously and am currently playing TF2 just as much. It isn't a nub game as it does require a decent amount of skill/strategy to be good at it. Yes, it is easier to pick up then say Counter-Strike or BF2 but it isn't a game just for casual players and nubs. You know what? How about drop the mightier then thou attitude?

What do expect from a demoman? He's got nothing BUT proximity mines and grenades! What do you expect from the soldier? Do people not rocket jump and rain down death from above in UT or Quake? What's the point in having a heavy if he's not going to riddle everybody with bullets? That's the point of the game - each class is simple enough but on the whole everyone helps everyone. It's not too competitive, it's just FUN.

And about getting the right team - well, one team attacks, one defends, usually. It doesn't require too much and so far I haven't encountered too many teams that weren't fun to play with, though granted I haven't played that much of it. But hey - it's the first multiplayer FPS to keep me interested for a while and not for a few days. That's something.

So you've played this game for a HUNDRED hours and you don't understand what's good about it? That's a lot of playtime for a game you don't like :D For the record, this is one of my favourite games, though I haven't played constantly since release.. and according to Xfire I have about 200 hrs.

I find it very satisfactory to get kills in this game, with pretty much every class. I like working with a good team for the win, and there are some awesome laugh-out-loud moments that I experience regularly. I don't get the spam bit. Sure you can spam rockets, but how many kills are you gonna get.. strategic rocket placement is where it's at and you can just take down enemies in a steady stream. Demoman can spam grenades and stickies, but where's the fun in that. I receive great satisfaction placing a whole bunch of stickies and taking out a whole bunch of guys at once, destroying an engineer's little hideout, etc.
