[QUOTE="dnuggs40"]Ya...my thought is that you are ignorant. Even just taking a meer 5 mins look into upcomming games shows there are tons of games comming out that are not RTS games...DeihmosIt's basically RTS and FPS. Those are the most popular genres. Tons of other types of games are comming out. Go read the upcomming games of 2007 thread.

Oh...Now most are rts, fps, *and* RPG's...added another genre to your invalid argument? And most don't get reviewed becuase they are indie games from lesser known developers, NOT becuase they suck. That's ok though, you can have a closed minded approach, afterall, you never played any of those games... "Most are console rejects..." Whooooo...care to back that up in any way shape or form? Point being, there are tone of games from all sorts of genre slated for realease this year. And while yes, many might not be AAA material, there is a lot that will be great game none the less. Thanks for your unqualified opinion :)

Lol... I'll come back when it's "most are RTS, FPS, RPG, MMO, platformers, adventure games, fighting games, Sim games and solitaire.
Name me one good recent PC fighter? When I play Pc games it is always an FPS or RTS. I was never interested in playing anything else on the PC. Sports or everything else I would rather play on a console. DeihmosWTF does that have to do with ANYTHING? The argument here is "why are only RTS's comming out for the PC", not "Why are there no Fighters on the PC". Do you understand?
He should have said why so many RTS are coming out. My point is that the majority of PC exclusives do fall into the category of FPS or the famous RTS/RPG and that is a fact. Deny it if you wish.DeihmosAgain, that is irrelevent. Because a certain genre is more popular then others, does not mean there is not a lot of good games in other catagories as well, which is the essence of this thread.
Here's a question.. Why are there so many side scrollers on the NES?
Why are there so many 3rd person Action/Adventure games on the PS2?
Why are there so many Strategy games like Deadlock, Alpha Centuri, Sword of the Stars, Masters of Orion on the PC?
I can go on.. but I think I made my point.. Games like Shadowgrounds or Fallout-esk (ex. Jagged Alliance 2) games are often overlooked.. Games like Faces of War, Joint Task Force (RTT), Close Combat etc..
As well as subgenres like Rainbow Six Raven's Shield, SWAT, etc.
Or hybrids like Deus Ex, Boiling Point, Stalker
And yes your hybrid RTS/RPG games like Spellforce 2 or even the turn based RPG games like Disciples 2, Heroes of Might and Magic etc.
And the hack and slash RPGs like Divine Divinity, Dungeon Siege, etc
Yes there are sub-genre's and to assume that there is only "FPS's coming out" or RTSs as in this case.. is just faulty logic.. Its much like saying why is there so many Hip-Hop music on the market? Or Alternative, etc...
Also, if your about to tell me that the games I listed are too old to be considered "relevant" look at the two examples listed by the OP.
Shadowgrounds - 6.9
Jagged Alliance is a 6 year old single player RTS
Faces of War - 6.0
Joint task Force - 6.5
Basically all the games you listed were RTS. Deihmos
So out of the Alkpaz's list of 19 games, you pull the 4 that you want to identify as RTS's...there's just a few problems: 1) Shadowgrounds is not an RTS, 2) Jagged Alliance was not brought up, Jagged Alliance 2 was, 3) Jagged Alliance 2 (which is barely 5 years old, btw...compared to the OP's Warcraft 3 (also 5 years old) and Age of Empires (10 years old!)) is not an RTS.
The main point that I think you missed is that there are many other genre's that are available to PC gamers. Yes, there are RTSs, RPGs, FPSs, TBSs, simulations, Action games, and so on. Also, among those genres there are sub-genres. RPGs can break down to RPG/strategy (Spellforce 2), action RPG (Diablo), and character RPG (Neverwinter Nights), FPS/RPGs (Hellgate: London, System Shock 2, Bioshock)...and the list goes on.
To say that there are only RTSs on the PC is simply being close-minded and ignorant of the games that are out/coming out for the PC. So, to those that say there are only RTS/FPS/RPG coming out for the PC, I point you to the wonderful thread: reasons why it is worth to be a PCgamer in 2007...enjoy
EDIT - good lord! I can't use the word c.l.a.s.s.i.f.y. on here? Freakin' profanity filters restricting perfectly legitimate words...starting to get on my nerves.
What i want to know is why game developers are still making MMO when we all know tht WoW is going to top everyone tht comes out. They should stop making MMO and start consentration on other genres on the PC.Marlins4lifeEasy answer. While it is unlikely any MMO in the near future will have the same success, releasing a MMO that has even a modest user base still makes them money.

I was about to say that, but I was having breakfast. :)RTS and FPS are the 2 most popular genres on the PC, probally the only 2 genres that are betteron the PC than consoles so theres always ALOT of them. If you look out through the history of pc gaming though it's always been more RTS games than anything else.TerrorantulaFinally someone that speaks the truth.

More importantly why is everyone trying to copy WOW now :\
