It's just dumb that there's going to be 10000 of the same exact character flying around, and since it's based off of cannon there's very little you could do to distinguish yourself from the other 9999.
It's not like a fantasy MMO where you're 1 of 5000 ogre warriors because all of them wear different armor and/or look different.
Yeah but eventually you both get the same gear which looks the same. So what's the difference?DrkNezFallzmost MMOs out there have an appearance slot, so your chars can look how ever you want without changing the gear. trust me, its kind of a big deal for an MMO to have no customization.
The problem with this is the lack of an identity in an mmo.
Having 9032 spider mans all running around the world is a bit odd. However if you have character creation and customization it could be more like this
Warrior 1: Is known as Sorbort, his skin tone is white, and has black hair and grey eyes. He hails from the northern regions, where he was exiled.
Warrior 2: Is known as Roberticus, his skin tone is green, he is big and bulky, and has red hair and red eyes. He comes from the mushroom empire and his favorite food is mushrooms. He came here looking for new lands to conquer.
Warrior 3: Is known as Laetha, she looks a lot like a vampire. She used to be a bard but after having her town pillaged by brigands, she took up arms to defend those she loves. She has served as a mercenary ever since.
Now if everyone has the same identity.
Spiderman 1: He was a high school student and a science whiz who was bitten by a spider, he loves Mary Jane
Spiderman 2: He was a high school student and a science whiz who was bitten by a spider, he loves Mary Jane
Spiderman 3: He was a high school student and a science whiz who was bitten by a spider, he loves Mary Jane
Playing as a set character works in single player games, but it is not a good idea for MMOs, I am not happy about you being in Havoc Squad in SWTOR if you roll Trooper.

I can count on 1 hand the amount of goblin shaman that look exactly like my goblin shaman on my server in WoW (hint, the number is 0).
Even if there is someone with the exact same look as me, it's so rare that I've never seen them. But you'd be hard pressed to not see another spiderman in this marvel mmo.

True. There is so much they could do with this, I really hope they don't butcher it. I also hope that this is pvp oriented.

Okay. And when you have all of your loot showing. Eventually everyone will have the same gear as you. So overall, you look the same. And besides, they did mention previous before that one character is taken per server. So there is no possible way you'll be seeing like 100 Spiderman's running around.Yeah, not sure what is going to happen there. Or if they'll have a ton of multiple servers. But I still plan on trying this game.So that's even worse. If you log on late on launch day you get stuck with the **** characters.

Come on.. that's not even remotely similar. You always ( more or less ) go through the same story in every other MMO too. The player character needs some sort of background for his story.
I wouldn't like an MMO where everyone is like me.rmfd341Yeah. But it could really cool. I am really excited to see this all works out. And how the gameplay/combat system looks like. But I'm not gonna deny myself from playing this cause I can't be my own hero.

To be fair, you get to choose between 3 backrounds, your appearance, your race and your gender in SWTOR. Troopers in TOR at least look to have some identity. It detracts somewhat being put in this squad, but you still get plenty of room to build your own identity. The problem I have with this is that that backround is too specific. I didnt like it with Goblins as well.
In this however... you ARE spiderman. You wont have much, if any identity.
