I see so many people having E6600's and 8800GTX's. Why now? It's not like Crysis is coming any time soon. Why are you buying high end hardware now? Why not wait 'til some DX10 games actually come out? By then, there will be much better hardware. And the $600 you spent on that 8800GTX would have gone down in price.

I agree 100%!!  If you are upgrading for Crysis wait until the game is out!!

If you are upgrading becuase you want to play STALKER with dynamic lighting now, and then still have a system that can play Crysis when it comes out then it makes a lot more sense.

You have to take notice that the dx10 is an "added incentive", and the real draw that I can see for owning it now is that it obliterates every other card in dx9 performance. And I for one did not spent an exhorbitant amount of cash to get my gtx's.

I'll Learn from the mistakes of others.

then make an educated purchase.

I can understand people wanting the best hardware but there's a certain point where it becomes a waste of money. Alot people say "I'm getting ready for Crysis." Okay, but why not "get ready" when it actually comes out and things will be cheaper. I'm not sure if many games actually take advantage of overclocked E6600's and 8800GTX's. If I had the cash for that stuff, I'd wait for some DX10 games to come out. That would make alot more sense, wouldn't it?

Agreed, the most demanding games that are coming mainly consist of Alan Wake & Crysis, Alan Wake apperently needs Quad Cores? or at least can only be best on Quad Cores (tbh that game looks like you need the graphics to set the mood, I wouldnt buy it without, looks like its taken out of a book, really really next gen imo :) ).

Alan Wake is early 2008 right?

Crysis is Nov/December (Dont beleive the september nonsense) ...

Quad Core takes 2 price slashes between now and then, and the graphic cards should go down in price if the ATI rumours are true.

Summer Job + Bar job until November, then splashing out on a good rig.

I suppose they deliver, but the shipping will kill you. Its delivered from indonesia, so that's a huge fare i'd imagine. Heck from indonesia to the philippines, which is only like a few hours flight, we already see about a 60 dollar shipping fee. Good thing i live in indonesia.

Yea the delivery would be high I bet, but even if it was double that $60, its a huge save.

$205 for a 8800 GTX ? Thats ₤105 , whereas a 8800 GTX here in the UK sells for ₤380 ($760 USD) O_O

I went to the shops personally, in indonesia, and indeed they do sell them for those prices, so i'd assume that they would ship and deliver.

Shipping all the way to Canada would be too much money.

Anyway, I plan to upgrade in the summer. 8800GTX, E6600, 2 Gigs RAM, Vista, 600W PSU FTW.

I actually upgraded for an entirely separate game (ie not Crysis). I was actually quite happy with my Northwood 2.67 GHz. I would have upgraded anyway, but I would have begun to do so right about now instead of August last year.
