I downloaded the Dirt Demo from Gamespot, and now I want to uninstall it. It won't let me, it says there is some error(-5001). I did this from the Control Panel's ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS, so it should work. So any other way I can uninstall it?

Delete it manually from your program files and then ininstall from the control panel; it should just be cool; if you still feel its' ghost is roaming your drive; redownload the demo; Reinstall and then uninstall it; and then call it a day; phewf...:?

left click on start menu on bottom left corner of screen; left click on my computer; double left click on local disk(C:); double left click on program files; delete codemasters file...right click and delete...empty recycle bin...and then go into control panel and uninstall; if that doesn't work then redownload and re-install and then uninstall through control panel; its kinda messy but it works.

It syas I have like 40GB left out of 70 or something like that. I haven't downloaded THAT much stuff. Is it basically all the stuff that came with the computer, or is it part of the harddrive that is always taken(like it is on the 360, they say it's a 20GB harddrive but 7 GB is taken by the harddrive itself)

It could be starforce messing with your system and the install, download the removal tool here:

http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55

Then after you run the uninstaller and remove starforce try and uninstall Dirt from the regular add/remove programs list. To remove temporary files and stuff like that I recommend you download CCleaner run the cleaner and scan for issues and get rid of everything, also make sure you go into the advanced options and uncheck the "only delete files older than 48 hours" option before you run the cleaner. Hope that helps :)

I got the demo uninstalled after redownloading it, but I have one question: What is Starforce, and how can it get on your computer? I don't believe it's on my computer.

Oh, and does CCleaner get rid of the files from Firefox too? It said just Internet Explorer when I used it, but it deleted cookies on sites which I had only been on Firefox and not Internet Explorer.

ALSO, if I have Windows Defender, is that perfectly fine, or should I get something like Spybot and Adware?

The Dirt demo has starforce protection for some reason so you do have it on your computer. I dont feel like explaining what starforce is or why its is bad for your system (its just way too much typing for me, as I hate starforce), run the removal tool its just better to not have it on your system.

Yes CCleaner removes junk (cookies, etc.) from firefox just click the applications tab (beside the windows tab) to see all programs ccleaner cleans junk from.

Windows defender is fine you dont really need spybot or ad-aware, actually ccleaner cleans most of the stuff like tracing cookies that spybot detects so really all you need is ccleaner :D. Do you have virus protection and firewall? Cause you will need programs like Zone Alarm (firewall) and avast! or AntiVir (anti-virus) to totally protect your PC.

All I have right now is a 90 day Norton AntiVirus trial, that was what found the cookie in the first place. I think I'll go with what you have, I guess Windows Firewall isn't enough. Thanks for your suggestions, totally saves me hundreds of dollars to buy all of it from Bestbuy!

You seem to be an expert on this! Maybe you can help me out in this thread

LOL no problem. Zone Alarm and AntiVir is really all you need and they are both totally free, if you don't like AntiVir you can use avast! which is also totally free but AntiVir is a little bit better in terms of protection so take your pick. You really can't go wrong with either one.

I just got the basic version of Zone Alarm, is that fine? There was something called Security Suite, I wasn't sure if I needed that or not.

No you do not need the security suite, just the basic FREE firewall (the suite includes antivirus and like 3 layer firewall I believe but its not free :( )

*BREATHES HEAVILY RAPIDLY* WOW, I had to uninstall ZoneAlarm, it was messing up my system! It wouldn't let me connect to my wireless network, I couldn't get back on the internet! How do I configure Zone Alarm to let me at least connect to my wireless network? It's great protection, but it's way too much.

Oh, and is it bad to have Windows Firewall and ZoneAlarm on at the same time? Or Avast! and Norton at the same time?

Yeah I need some more help(send me a friend request if you can, it'd make it easier).

I tried ZoneAlarm again, it still wouldn't let my wireless router give me access to the internet.

Also, for the Avast software, I got the Home Protection, but there are only 59 days left! Did I get a wrong version, or you can only pay for it? Is there a free version of home protection on the website?
