HD4870 because it's faster than the 260. See for yourself:

I'm hopping geforce will lower the price of the gtx280 when ati launches the 4870. In any case I have to say wait until the 4870 launches and then start deciding.

Thanks for the quick responds, i wanted to order a hd4870 but i saw on different review sites that it can turn really hot so i wasn't sure which one to get, I'm ordering a 4870 tomorrow, see how it goes and if it gets hot I'm putting a better fan on it.

The HD 4870. The GTX 260 is just a blatant rip-off for $400, at least as far as gaming performance goes.

Yes it looks like aftermarket coolers for other cards will work fine on the new generation. They have that same x shaped base. The 4870 is a good choice.

I'm getting GTX 280. Just out of curiousity, where do they have GTX 260 for sale? I cant find them. I've seen performance charts comparing the GTX 260 but that's it.

the 4870 much better card imo its faster for a 100$ less. nvidia has really dispointed with there gtx 200. the only thing the gtx 280 has ghoing for it is being the fatest single core graphics card on themarket but at 650$ its a rip off when u consider how little performance boost it offers compared to the price. so defintly lgo with the 4870.

nice way to blow ur money when u could have gotten the 4870x2 or what ever there gonna call it haven't seen benchmarks of it but there no way it could be slower the a gtx280 seeing as how close the 4870 comes tothe gtx 280. and will most certianly cost less.

I'm also curios how the 4870x2 will perform(it's also coming out soon), probably it will beat the crap out the gtx280 and since the nvidia has a very big die and large power consumption it Will be very difficult to make a x2 (with that size).
